Aloha to Jami Alden and BEG FOR MERCY

On this date in 1579, Sir Francis Drake claimed the land now known as California for England, naming it Nova Albion (New White).  Indeed, California would become a treasure chest with the gold rush, wine country, Silicon Valley, and some of the best damn romance writers.

Today I spotlight one of those talented writers, Jami Alden.  From her bio,

Then in fall 2001 I had an incredible stroke of luck and got laid off from my marketing job.  I decided it was time to stop saying I wanted to be a writer and to actually give it a serious go.  Fortunately my husband, a socially well adjusted alpha male, is a very generous patron of the arts.

Jami is celebrating the release of her new book, BEG FOR MERCY, from Grand Central Publishing:

Megan Flynn thought she was falling in love. Cole Williams wasn't just handsome and passionate, he was one of the good guys. Or so she thought, until he arrested her brother-the only family she has left-for a murder she knows he couldn't have possibly committed. Now, with her heart broken and her brother's life hanging in the balance, Megan will risk everything to prove his innocence. Even if that means throwing herself into the path of a sadistic killer with a hauntingly familiar MO.

Seattle Detective Cole Williams had given up on making Megan see reason where her brother is concerned. But when she insinuates herself into the most shockingly brutal case Cole has ever worked, he can't stand idly by. Plunged into a secret world where the city's elite indulge their darkest desires, Cole will do whatever it takes to bring down a madman who has made Megan his most coveted prey.

  1. Drake's Beach, where Sir Francis Drake supposedly landed, is my favorite beach. I go there almost every weekend if I can. It's where I took the picture of the harbor seal that is my avatar. The coolest man-made item I found there is a woman's size 8 high heeled shoe that was encrusted in barnacles, tubeworms, sea grass, and baby oysters. It was the little mermaid's lost slipper.

  4. I would love to see California one day, a treasure that I have in my back yard is the Rocky mountains. We're a hour and a half away and go to Jasper quite often, so majestic!! I live in Canada and am very proud, well mostly, except for case like last nights riots in Vancouver, proud of my country.

  5. When Hubby and I visited California years ago, we discovered the truly special Point Lobos Nature Preserve. We've never forgotten this beautiful area with its playful sea otters. It was magical--indeed, a treasure.

  6. I'm from the U.S. but unfortunately never made it to California (I live in PA). I got as close as Arizona and Hawaii lol. Before we had kids my husband and I traveled as much as we could and always brought home treasures from our trips and they decorate my home. To pick just one would be impossible. They all tell a story.
