No Ka Oi - none is better than the multi-talented photographer and author, Jenn LeBlanc. She is the creator of the hot book, THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE, with the hot cover and hot pictures! I asked Jenn a few questions about her intriguing bio
Kim: It seems that some people have all the creative talent! Tell us about Colorado - what is your favorite sight, sound, and smell?
Jenn: Thank you Kim, and thank you for having me today! I'm not sure I received all the creative talent, I do call on others for help in certain areas. I like to think I'm a good storyteller, both visually and in words and I believe if you have enough passion for something, anything can happen.
Oh Colorado, I love it here, all we need is a broad expanse of beach and I would never leave. I think my favorite sight, sound and smell is the headwaters of the Platte River all the way up at the top of Red Cone Pass. Not very many people can get up that high, and that makes it special. The air is crisp and clean, the water tumbles noisily over the rocks and in the spring the earth is covered in moss and wildflowers.
This isn't Colorado, it's the one thing that's missing, the beach. This is one of my favorite places in the world, Wildcat Creek on Garrapata Beach in California.
The break at Garrapata.
Kim: I envision you now, sitting back in all these circumstances, taking inventory of what would make a great "story" on film and in text. What inspired a Colorado photographer to write an novel about a time travel to Victorian England?
Jenn: I suppose my daydreams of being with the amazing dukes and other characters in some of my favorite romance novels started it all. I think the first time I ever really thought about being in another time and place was after reading series about the Cynsters by Stephanie Laurens and the Wallflowers by Lisa Kleypas. I absolutely LOVED Lord Westcliff and Devil Cynster and I remember having a big "Oh no he di'int!!" moment when Devil simply informs everyone that she is to marry him. I loved all of the primary Cynster book heroes and while their bride's all did very good jobs of taming their men, I wondered what a modern day woman would do with a Duke like that. It seemed every time I read a historical novel I was wondering what a modern day woman would be thinking in these situations. Thus came Gideon, and with him Francine. I chose the Victorian era because I know much more about it, and I have always been quite enamored with all things Victorian. There is also some secondary storyline with mental illness in my book that wouldn't have been as possible in the Regency, I needed my novel to take place around the very worst time for the Bethlem Royal Hospital.
Kim: Tell us about THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE. I assume you photographed the book cover - who is the male model?
Kim: Tell us about THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE. I assume you photographed the book cover - who is the male model?
Jenn: This book is such an adventure. A woman torn from her modern day existence lands under the hooves of some very large and dangerous horses, a Duke terribly burdened by his past and the fact that he nearly killed a girl. This man takes everything to heart, regardless of cause or fault. As the Duke, anything that happens under his purview he considers his responsibility, and this girl has him all tied up in knots (as heroines as wont to do). Francine on the other hand can't figure out what the deal is with this stuffy, obnoxious, overpowering, male burden who seems to be offended by the slightest glance of female skin. Gideon's story is so very endearing, and the change he goes through as a man is truly quite powerful and emotional, and while Francine has always been true to herself, she really finds her footing and her roots, far from anywhere she ever expected to be.
Ah, the face of my hero, Derek Hutchins. Terribly handsome isn't he? I discovered him here in Denver, though he is currently based in San Francisco and soon moving to either LA or NYC depending on where the agency he signs with wants him. He has actually become a dear friend of mine though all of this chaos, and he has a fan following as Gideon, my Duke of Roxleigh. Though they follow everything he is doing now. You can keep up with him on twitter with the hashtag #TeamDerek.
Kim: What's next for Jenn LeBlanc?
Jenn: I am currently working on the much anticipated follow up to THE RAKE AND THE RECLUSE, Perry's story. I plan to shoot the images in September, it is slated for a February release. At the moment I am knee deep in casting for my hero Perry, and if you'd like to follow along there my twitter followers got me to start a tumbler just for that. It is terribly NSFW at times, so be careful.
This is from the original Perry shoot, but unfortunately my original Perry has moved to Korea to teach English to kids...so.
This is Levi Goedl, he is a new model I've started working with.
As well I am writing a novella for inclusion in a historical anthology, the working title of which is Twitchy. It is set to be released in January of 2011.
I have also started the next set of the illustrated series, I love the opening scene it's like a wedding based on White Christmas, the old movie with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
Thank you having me Kim!

This double sided "Victoria" fan was made by Terri Brisbin
for last year's RomCon ....
.... do you think Her Majesty would be shocked
by Jenn's luscious pictures?

"The Rake and the Recluse" looks great! I suppose I would have to read it on my laptop to take advantage of the full color pics.
ReplyDeleteVictorian England? I'm going to miss antibiotics and ibuprofen. It'd be fun to attend balls and check out many artwork at Tate and such.
Jenn, you book sounds so so good.
ReplyDeleteWhat I would miss if I went back into time to Victorian England would be electricity. I would love to be a member of the Ton and go to balls.
Best wishes for success of the books.
ReplyDeleteVictorian England seems to have seethed with the spirit of adventure and discovery, as the secrets of science, the mystery of religion, and the hidden treasures in geography were unlocked. The down side is that medicine was not far along--an age with no antibiotics, no thanks.
I love historicals and time travels going back to the past are always fun reads. I would miss all the amenities but if I was in the upper class it probably wouldn't be too bad lol. I think I would enjoy the men who did have honor (especially if they looked like the above specimens lol).
ReplyDeletecatslady
Sheree you are absolutely correct! Scary world we had without antibiotics!
ReplyDeleteDanielle thank you!
Liz, the Victorian era was an incredible one wasn't it?
Catslady we can always hope for honorable men.
Good luck in the giveaway!!
BTW!! I had Derek out here for RomCon at the beginning of August and we had a little luau with the AWESOME Mel Schroeder, so we had some fun with a sarong and a lei...thought you would enjoy this in Hawai'i Kim:

Aloha, Jenn! Thanks for stopping by ...
ReplyDelete... I can only imagine your models in a mali (loincloth) for a luau! And I know Mel did it right as she previously lived here!
You are so talented - I hope to meet you in person next year on the mainland!
Hi Jenn and welcome! Wow! Another time travel story. I absolutely love them.
ReplyDeleteWhat would I miss in Victorian England? Definitely antibiotics, electricity, telephones, cell phones, and computers. Also having to dress in a corset and all the clothes they wore. What would I love about it? No cars and less population than we have now.
I've seen Jenn's cover on the blogs but I did not realize that one edition is a "picture book."
ReplyDeleteThat is a creative way to combine her talents!
Barbara
Inappropriate! What was the question again? I was busy looking at Levi's abs. Gasp! You have my favorite picture of Derek up there!
ReplyDeleteIf an awesome blue police box took me back to Victorian England, I'd love getting around in carriages (anything can happen in there--a certain DM wrote about it in her book).
<3 u!!!
Congrats, Jenn, on a uniquely interesting book concept.
ReplyDeleteNow, about that visit to Victorian England. I love history, so I would love to "live" in it for a little while. On the loathe side of the coin, I would not want to be without air conditioning or readily available chocolate for too long!
The Rake and the Recluse looks delicious! ;)
ReplyDeleteI imagine it is exhausting to wear a Victorian gown and corset every day but I still would look forward to getting dressed as a Victorian lady for one day if I could travel back in time. Oh, and maybe even meet the Queen. :)
Queen Victoria may be shocked by Jenn's photographs, but they are gorgeous! No doubt Jenn is a professional - but does it get "hot" in those photographic sessions?
ReplyDeleteSue
Love the pictures! The Rake and the Recluse sounds like such a great book!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm not sure what I would love but I know I would loathe the lack of technology.
Kim thank you again for having me! What a fun interview. I'll have to look into the mali, we had requests fro subregalia, Spartacus style, so it sounds a bit similar. I look forward to meeting you sometime!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cathy!
Thank you Barbara! How cool you recognized my cover (to me anyway) :)
Kati! (stalker!) <3 you.
LSU reader thank you so much, and oh yeah, lack of A/C huh, I dunno!
Claudia thank you! I certainly hope you think it is delicious if you read it. :)
Sue she just might be, I bet she had her own stash of risqué imagery...maybe? No?
Casey I agree I'm SUCH a tech hound. ooosh.
Thank you everyone! Good luck in the giveaway!
Jenn
omg I love those pictures. I love the new model too. I think that picture of his hands tied is a keeper...seriously....a keeper. lol
ReplyDeleteVictorian England...well I would miss pain reliever, a real doctor, and the internet..lol
Jenn, I am not a stalker. I'm just leaving you, D and Levi some love. <3
ReplyDeleteThe Rake and the Recluse sounds interesting and thanks for sharing the pictures! As for time-travelling, I would definitely miss indoor plumbing and the lack thereof would probably be what I would loathe should I be time-travelling anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteMary I'm with you. I think I would live in pain if I could have the inter webs. ;)
ReplyDeleteKait that's not what your name tag said. ;)
Winnie your right, chamber pots ae pretty gross.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
J
you're right, not your right. I am too sleepy today! Carry on. :)
ReplyDeleteLIES! Queen Victoria is not amused...
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that not that Victoria would be shocked but also Queen Elizabeth would be today as well but I think it's fantastic! I've -checked out Jenn's photograpahs before and think they are wonderful. Now if we could just buy very large copies of them. Wouldn't it be fun to have a lifesize blow-up to look at while reading her books!
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a chance to read one of Jenn's books yet but definately am going to read The Rake and the Recluse!
Loved the book! The characters are easy to relate to & care about. The duke is divine!Francine is lovable, not one of those charcacters that makes you go" WTH is she thinking?"The photos are sensual and erotic but never vulgar.what would I dislike?Corsets and not having any rights. What I would love? The beauty of an English garden and the countryside.A handsome passionate Duke would be lovely as well. ~Jill S.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS JEANNE!! Have fun with 'my' duke. :)
ReplyDeleteJill, thank you so much! I am so happy to hear that you loved my book! *grinning*
