Aloha to Cindy Gerard and LAST MAN STANDING

On this day in 1935, Leonarde Keeler tested the first polygraph machine.   From Wikipedia,

He above all was most instrumental in the popularization of modern polygraphy in criminal investigation and job screenings.

One employer who  uses polygraphs to screen applicants is US Intelligence.   Stephanie Tompkins from Cindy Gerard's LAST MAN STANDING would have undergone a polygraph test to be hired by the NSA.   And the job alerted Stephanie that her lover, "Mean" Joe Green, was in trouble:

A deadly mission.
A thirst for revenge.
One headstrong alpha hero and one daring woman will settle the score.

Special operative Joe Green has gone vigilante. His mission: avenge his Black Ops, Inc., brother’s death during a bloody ambush years ago in Sierra Leone. He refuses to drag the BOI team or his lover, Stephanie Tompkins, into the hunt for the man responsible, so when he finds himself beaten, starving, and alone after being falsely imprisoned for the murder of a Freetown priest, he knows he’s as good as dead. Joe meant to protect Stephanie when he walked out on their relationship, but he can’t stop her now from executing his escape. Breaking him out of prison is the easy part. After Joe’s explosive theory pans out and his cunning enemy emerges as the front runner for a high-level presidential appointment, he and Stephanie must race to derail the traitor’s conspiracy if they are to save their loved ones, the nation, and each other.

LAST MAN STANDING is Book Seven in Cindy Gerard's BLACK OPS, INC. (BOI) series:

Where patriotism meets the seamy underbelly of a world held hostage by greed, corruption and terror.

Black Ops, Inc. (B.O.I.) picks up where the Bodyguards left off. Where E.D.E.N. Securities showcased the all-American Garretts and their extended family, B.O.I., a private contracting firm specializing in jobs even the military and the CIA won’t touch, features an equally heroic but different breed of men and women fighting a covert war pitting good against evil.

The B.O.I. operatives are shadow warriors – former SEAL, DELTA, Special Forces, and CIA types who valiantly served their country and now fearlessly serve their employer. They are individuals so committed to their cause they’ve lost touch with the concept of baseball, mom and apple pie. Their world, instead, is comprised of bullets and bad guys and a daily fight to save not only the free world but their very lives.

Check out my review of LAST MAN STANDING on Goodreads at this link.   I am giving away a print copy of LAST MAN STANDING to one randomly selected commenter.  To enter the giveaway,

1.  Check out Cindy's photos on her website (at this link) - have you shot a gun?  If yes, what kind?  If no, would you try one like Cindy for "research"?

When I was a Captain with orders for Germany, I was required to qualify on a M9 to move overseas.  I must not have payed much attention during the class as I was startled by the shell casing falling to my feet.   Thankfully, a gun was unnecessary during my NATO assignment.

2.  This giveaway is open to all readers.

3.  Comments are open through Saturday, February 4, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, February 5.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

  2. No, I've never even held a gun let alone shoot with one... but I would definitely try one at a shooting range or something. Would love to see how accurate my shot would be, lol :)

  6. When we were at my husband's army reunion in Indiana a couple of years ago I held a rifle in my hand -- not loaded. I'm looking forward to Cindy's new series.

Please do not enter me for this book, I have it.

  7. Those are great pictures! What a good time. It's not a bad idea to know what it feels like. :) I've got a Keltec. It's a little .32 caliber handgun. I would really like to shoot something bigger... someday, but life is busy. :P

Please enter me for the book! Love Gerard's books. Thanks, Kim!

  8. These two book covers are so, so lovely. Just something about a muscular back *sigh*

Why yes, I have shot a few handguns, rifles, and shotguns. It all started when I was a young girl and went skeet shooting. I do have my own "pea shooter", Hubs is an avid hunter and both of us have our CWP.

    We're Marines - nuff said.

  9. Nope, don't have a shotgun, and I've never fired one. But, if I were writing a story that involved shotguns, I'd definitely fire one to see what it is really like.

  10. No, I've never shot a gun nor do I intend to do so.
I love the cover of Cindy's latest book. What is it with these sexy backs? *g*

  11. Yeah I've shot a gun a few times when I was younger. When I was 12 my mom had a boyfriend that was an avid gun collector and he thought that if us kids were going to be in a house with guns we should know how to shoot them. So I shot a hand gun, a shotgun, a rifle and a semi automatic Ruger 22.

It's been a while since I shot a gun but I got pretty good at target practice. My Hubby was in the Army and goes target shooting with my brother sometimes at a place called Frontsite here in Nevada and they get to fire all sorts of guns there. I haven't gone yet.

  12. Thanks for the Great review Kim! I really appreciate it and I'm glad you liked the book - even though you just now got in on the tail end of the series :o)
    And thanks everyone for commenting.
As for shooting guns - it's a real adrenaline rush knowing you have that much power. It's also an eye opener on the intricacies of weaponry and the extreme care and caution you must take when handling firearms. That said, I loved every second of it. :o)

  14. I've never shot a gun and don't think I'd want to do it either. Guns freak me out.

  15. A very long time ago I shot a rifle - once. It was a large rifle, beautifully made. My husband only had it a short while before selling it to someone who was interested in guns and collecting them. Unfortunately, this gun was what they called an "elephant gun" and no one made a point of letting me know what kind of a kick was involved. I watched two men shoot it before me. Apparently you hold it tightly against your shoulder. I ended up on the ground and with a very bruised shoulder. My first and last time at shooting a firearm lol.

I've been hearing a lot of great things about this series. Sounds exciting.

  16. I've mostly shot rifles and shotguns. Since my aim isn't that great, I never got into it.

Although I knew about the kick, I never forgave a certain shooting range for having their setup in such a way that the ejected casing (freaky hot) would bounce off the netting and land right on my hand (and everyone wondered why I was flinching after each shot).

  17. Love, love, love Cindy's books. You asked the other day who'd I'd like to sit next to during dinner. I would love to share a table/conversation with Cindy. Her books and military men are great.

I'm dying to learn how to shoot a gun. I can't seem to find a class or the time. Bummer.

  19. Growing up, my dad was a gun collector, so he taught us how to shoot several different guns (names eluding me now). My husband and I have a Ruger and I have shot it at the gun club.

Cindy, I love your books, and Last Man Standing, sounds really good.

  20. Have shot a number of types of guns----grew up in the country where target practice was a given.

    I love this series!

  21. I've never shot a gun, but it seems like it might be fun to try on a target range.

  22. Interesting guns there, gals.

I've shot handguns a couple of times. The first was when I was quite young. My Dad, a police officer, took us kids to a shooting range, to teach us about the dangers of guns. Toward the end, he held each of us and helped us shoot at a target. I still remember the kickback on that thing!

Congrats to Cindy on Last Man Standing. Thanks for the giveaway.

  29. I have shot a gun and can hit skeet, believe it or not. I don't like them and have a hefty respect for them. My husband is a hunter, so I will cook what he hunts as long as he presents it in a way that I don't have to skin or pluck or anything else.

  30. I have never shot a gun and I definitely have no interest in shooting one.

  31. My cousin used to go to the firing range and she took me once. It was a powerful experience that I'll never forgot. Got a rush out of it but once was enough for me. Thanks for the giveaway.
