Upcoming Readers' Events!

Today  I trek across the inactive volcano crater with the Boy Scouts.  Let me leave you in the comfort of your home with a review of upcoming reader conventions!

- Barbara Vey's Readers' Appreciation, April 10, in  Oak, Creak, WI.  From its website (link)

Join us as we welcome 38 authors to Wisconsin for an afternoon luncheon filled with fun, gift bags full of books and door prizes. We will also be raffling off an acoustic guitar with accessories, a full color Nook and many baskets filled with books and other items. Not only will you enjoy lunch at an author table, but this event includes a book signing with NYT best seller Heather Graham and the 38 authors attending.

My part:  I am driving the authors who arrived early in Chicago, including CH Admirand, Renee Bernard, Anne Elizabeth, Heather Graham, and Cathy Maxwell.  Aren't I the lucky driver?!?

- RT Booklovers' Convention, April 11 -14, in Chicago, IL.  From its website (link),

At the 2012 RT Booklover Convention we will be celebrating The Year of the Reader. We've expanded our Reader track to include even more panels, workshops and opportunities for you to meet some of your favorite authors. Spend time with authors, readers and fellow booklovers at these panels, games and special reader-centric events!

My part:  I host the SOS America Military Mixer to honor military families:

SOS America's annual military mixer is going back in time to a WWII USO Cantina. We are pleased to welcome the barbershop quartet, SEASONED SOUND, comprised of military veterans from the Chicago area. Also joining us is the AFROTC Honor Guard and the local USO director. This event is open to all registered for the RT Booklovers' Convention and local military families. Brush up on your service's song as we'll be singing along with SEASONED SOUND. Special thanks to this year's sponsors: Kathryn Falk, CH  Admirand, Renee Bernard, Grace Burrowes, Diana Cosby, Anne Elizabeth, Geri Krotow, Sara Humphries, Merline Lovelace, Catherine Mann, Cathy Maxwell, Julie Miller, Pamela Palmer, Caridad Pineiro, Tara Nina, Terry Spear, and Elisabeth Staab.

- RWA's 32nd Annual Conference, July 25-28, in Anaheim, CA.   From its website (link)

Join more than 2,100 published and aspiring romance writers, editors, agents, and other industry professionals in Anaheim, California. Conference attendees will enhance their writing and knowledge of the ins and outs of publishing at more than 100 workshops; get the inside track at panels and round-tables featuring publishing professionals; schedule a one-on-one pitch meeting with an acquiring editor or literary agent; attend parties and network with the stars of romance fiction; and be a part of RWA's "Readers for Life" charity book signing. And let's not forget the 2012 RITA® and Golden Heart® Awards.

My part:  just attend!   I look forward to the Literacy Signing on Wednesday, July 25, 5 -7 pm.

I encourage you attend these events, even for a day, especially if you live within driving distance.  If you are attending, let's get together!  Send me an email at sos.aloha@yahoo.com.

I know there are other conferences - are you attending any?   How about a local signing in your neighborhood?  One randomly selected commenter will win a book choice from my convention stash.  This giveaway is open to all readers.  Comments are open through Saturday, March 17, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, March 18.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

  1. While I would love to go to one of these events one day, I don't see it happening anytime soon.

  8. It all sounds wonderful! Maybe one day I'll get to go to one of those conventions!

The only author I've met is Leighton Gage. I won a copy of Blood of the Wicked and he signed it for me at our local mystery book store.

  11. You have some wonderful plans lined up. I look forward to hearing about it on the blog. I've never been to a book convention. I attended a couple of author signings, years ago.

  12. I may go to rwa 2012 this year. Not quite sure yet. I better check the site and see the deadlines for signing up. If not, then I'll for sure go when the conference comes to San Diego in a few years.

  14. I'll be thinking about you and all the fun you will be having. Attending any of these type of events is not in the cards for me anytime soon. Most of the book signings, etc. happen in the Dallas area and I truly cannot handle the traffic - makes me physically ill.

  16. Kim,
One of these days I'll get to hug your neck at RT, but it will have to be when it's closer to the house.

This year however, I'm so excited *happy dance* . . .I'm going to AAD in NOLA and can't wait to meet so many of the friends I've made online!

  20. Enjoy RT...I am jealous of all those wonderful authors (and books) that you will be interacting with but know you will have a blast! Looking forward to seeing you in Anaheim...beautiful and awe-inspiring picture of the volcano, you are much braver than I since I wouldn't want to be anywhere near in case Mother Nature or Pele suddenly decides to get more exuberant!

  21. I would love to attend but only if close to me. It would be awesome to be surrounded by all those great authors and be able to meet some in person.
