Your heart just breaks, that’s all. But you can’t judge, or point fingers. You just have to be lucky enough to find someone who appreciates you. - Audrey Hepburn

Jill Shalvis kicks off a “series within a series” in Lucky
Harbor. She’s already published three
“Lucky Harbor" books - three sisters find each other, then love, in a coastal town south of Seattle. Plus a companion cookbook!
This summer, Forever
is publishing three more books in Lucky Harbor about three unconnected women who find
friendship with each other and love on their own.
In LUCKY IN LOVE, Mallory (ER nurse), Amy (waffling waitress), and Grace (unemployed banker) find themselves trapped in the town’s diner during a severe snow storm. Consoling themselves with chocolate cake, the situation turns grim when a tree branch crashes the diner's window and “Mysterious Cute Guy” wanders by with a head injury. The gals, lead by Mallory’s medical instincts, render aid to him. In the aftermath of what happened, these new friends decide to meet weekly (if not on demand when necessary) to eat chocolate and dish about life.
The day you decide to do it is your lucky day. – Japanese
Proverb
Amy and Grace encourage Mallory to stop looking for Mr.
Right and have fun with Mr. Wrong, i.e., “Mysterious Cute Guy.” Mallory uncharacteristically makes the move
on “Mysterious Cute Guy” without knowing his name. This kicks off a charming romance between Mallory and Ty
Garrison, a former Navy SEAL recovering from a leg injury. While the local doctor is monitoring his
physical progress, Ty is ignoring the emotional pain from his last mission as
a SEAL.
A man on a date wonders if he’lll get lucky. The woman already knows. – Monica Piper

| Hawaii's favorite SEAL - Steve McGarrett |
Ty offers Mallory the opportunity to break out of her “good
girl” image. Mallory offers Ty a
sanctuary from his pain. Together they
dance around long term commitment and the town’s interest in their growing
passion.
Luck affects everything; let your hook always be cast; in
the stream where you least expect it, there will be a fish. – Ovid
Indeed, Ty teaches Mallory to care for herself before she
seeks to save the world. Likewise,
Mallory helps Ty to address his grief.
They find love with each other when they least expect it.
I commend Shalvis for how she reveals Ty’s PTSD, Mallory’s
response to it, and Ty’s eventual acceptance of it. Shalvis addresses a timely issue with compassion. Yet the subject does not weigh down the
overall story of friends, family, community, and love. Shalvis keeps it light by opening each chapter with a quote about chocolate - you know how much I love chocolates and quotes!
I recommend LUCKY IN LOVE to readers who enjoy offbeat characters,
female camaraderie, opposites attract, competent heroine, and a sexy Alpha hero
who is man enough open his heart to love. I requested to
review LUCKY IN LOVE. The publisher provided
an ARC for this review.
Forever is giving away a print copy of LUCKY IN LOVE to one randomly selected commenter. To enter the giveaway,

I am lucky that I was born into a wonderful family.
ReplyDeleteI love the Japanese Proverb....it's going into my quote file!
Thanks for a great post and giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLOL... I've been somewhat lucky as in I have a good life and great friends and family. However, a lot of that is from my own hard work so... :)
well there is the quote - if I wasn't unlucky, I wouldn't have any luck at all lol. I think luck is all in how you see things - one person's luck may not seem so to another and vice versa. It can be all in the perspective!
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that everyone is lucky in what they love/or who they love. I have been pretty lucky in the past couple of years. 3 years ago I won a trip to Altanta-3 days, all expences paid. Last year I won a trip to Nashville, TN for the CMA Festival-again all expences paid except for food and souvenirs. Then about 10 years ago I was doing a scratch off lottery ticket. I scratched and noticed that I won $250, but then realized that it was doubled. I won $500. What a great day that was.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds great, big fan of Jill's books and would love to read this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteI say I was also blessed with a wonderful husband and sisters, plus many good friends.
ReplyDeleteAlways blessed, only sometimes lucky! Hubby was blessed with Lady Luck this weekend; he walked out of a casino a winner.
ReplyDeleteLady Luck came through for me 40 years ago when I met my wonderful husband of 39 years. We are hoping she will strike again and my husband will be declared cancer free.

I have to agree with Cathy. I am up there in years and have a wonderful family and even a greatgranddaughter.

Lady luck hasn't really found me... unless you talk about my two babies. :)
ReplyDeleteLuck for me is hard work.
ReplyDeleteI guess it sometimes shows up.
ReplyDeleteLady luck has come through for me - I bought a townhouse in California when prices were very low, and sold it 8 years later (in 2004) when prices were through the roof. I sold it for over three times what I paid, and was able to move to Florida and buy a larger home with a pool for cash and purchase a new car. It has put me in a very nice financial position at a time when others have lost their homes or are in a negative equity situation. Of course, I had to take the initiative and grab the opportunity, but I definitely consider myself more lucky than anything to be in this position.
ReplyDeleteLove jill's books whoo Ty hot
