Aloha to Doctor Linda J. Ferguson and STAYING GROUNDED IN SHIFTING SAND

Yesterday Hawaii Five O kicked off filming for its third season.   The first order of business - a Hawaiian blessing.  Check out the news story at this link.  Even the military starts any new venture with a Hawaiian blessing to recognize the spiritual power throughout the islands.

Keeping with the spirits, I welcome Dr. Linda J. Ferguson for an enlightening post today!  From her bio,

Dr. Linda J. Ferguson is an author, speaker, coach, and seminar leader to support people leading a joyful and awakened spiritual life. Linda’s website, www.lindajferguson.com, contains videos, meditations, affirmations, and other useful resources for spiritual growth and personal development. Readers find inspiring and informative ideas in Linda’s blog to enrich their spirituality for everyday living- www.lindajferguson.com/blog.

Kim:  Can you share about where you live - your favorite sight, sound, and smell?

Dr. Ferguson:  I live in No. VA - Favorite places are Wolf Trap Park for music venues and trails by the Potomac River for walking. I like hearing the diverse languages of people in the area and smell the good ethnic foods from many cultures - Ethiopian, Indian, Thai, Mediterranean.

Kim:  What inspired you to pursue a MA in Social Psychology?

Dr. Ferguson:  I was interested in group dynamics, how people influence each other in groups, why teams work well together or not, how groups make decisions etc. I wanted to learn why people behave differently in groups than they do on their own (both in positive and negative ways) - eg. social facilitation helps people perform better in front of others and diffusion of responsibility leads to people slacking off in groups.

Kim:  Who introduced you to Eco-Shamanism? What are some common misconceptions about shamanism?

Dr. Ferguson:  I studied with Azurae Windwalker who uses that term. It's about using Shamanic drumming and other practices to help heal the planet and tend to Mother Earth more intentionally. I'm guessing a common misconception is that Shamanism needs to be done in the jungles or prompted by hallucinogenic drugs (eg., Carlos Castenada's stories). Shamanism involves connecting with spirit guides and being a channel for higher energy to move through you. Once trained you can do that anywhere, no drugs necessary.

Kim:  Tell us about your book!

Dr. Ferguson:  Staying Grounded in Shifting Sand is an insightful spiritual guidebook that provides memorable stories and practical ideas for moving through life challenges to experience greater joy. Each chapter has valuable exercises, meditations, and affirmations. Readers learn the potent seven step process of Transformational EmpowermentTM for Personal Mastery that I developed working with my coaching clients and workshop participants. My book is written for those who are ready to fulfill their soul contracts, desire to be a Conscious Co-creator for personal transformation, want to raise their energy for greater abundance, joy and healing, who want to awaken spiritually, and deepen their spiritual practice.

Kim:  What's next for Linda J. Ferguson?

Dr. Ferguson:  I've been doing church services and book talks to share the ideas with larger groups. I'm developing more workshops and retreats so people can work more with the ideas from this book. I'm also developing a study guide so that people can discuss the book in groups and do the activities with one another. That way they can share what they are learning and experiencing from the ideas in the book.

  5. Kim -

Thank you for this insightful interview. It really gave me a better sense of understanding transformational empowerment.

I have found what has always helped me to have "good energy" is to do more listening to people than talking. I've found that when I really concentrate on another person's needs and desires and understand where they are in their lives that in return I receive back more than I could every possibly give.

  9. I find that since I retired and have learned to relax gives me good energy and be more positive; always making lemonade!

I've been to Wolf Trap - a number of years ago now. It was for Cajun music and was one of the best musical events I ever attended.

  10. I create good energy by shutting off in my mind all the things that are troubling me and stressing me out. It's really helped me a lot lately.

I love all these pictures above, and I'd not idea that Hawaiian blessings were carried out before any new venture starts. :-)
