Aloha to Jeanette Murray and THE OFFICER SAYS "I DO"

On this day in 1960, President Eisenhower debuts the new 50 star flag in Philadelphia.   It follows the admission of Hawaii as the fiftieth state on August 21, 1959.  The flag now flies around the world at US Embassies guarded by the Marines.

The few.  The Proud.  The Marines.

Contemporary author Jeanette Murray knows something about the Marines.  From her bio,

Jeanette Murray spends her days surrounded by hunky alpha male heroes...at least in her mind. In real life, she's a one-hero kind of woman, blessed to be married to her own real-life Marine. When she's not chasing her daughter or their lovable-but-stupid Goldendoodle around the house, she's deep in her own fictional world, building another love story. As a military wife, she would tell you where she lives...but by the time you read this, she'll have moved again.

For more information, head over to her website at www.jeanettemurray.com.

Jeannette is celebrating the release of THE OFFICER SAYS "I DO", the first book in her Semper Fi series:

He's a Marine...she grew up on a commune.

He always puts duty first...she's a free spirit with an unshakable belief in Fate.

He loves routine and order...she brings chaos and creativity wherever she goes.

They're going to balance each other perfectly--or drive each other completely, utterly insane...

On a wild pre-deployment celebration in Las Vegas, Captain Timothy O'Shay encounters free-spirited beauty Skye McDermott, and for once lets down his guard. Now his life is about to take off in directions he never could have imagined.

I posted my review of THE OFFICER SAYS "I DO" on Amazon on this link and Goodreads at this link.  I am giving away a print copy of

  1. Red, white and blue. Really do not have a place to set up a flag but had I the chance to, I would proudly fly our stripes and stars.

  2. The flag of my country is the Union Jack, and I always get a little emotional when I see it.
I love the fact that it is incorporated into your flag of Hawaii.

I've seen a lot of it these past few months, as England has been celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee.

The flag consists of the red cross of Saint George (patron saint of England), edged in white, superimposed on the Cross of St Patrick (patron saint of Ireland), which are superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew (patron saint of Scotland).

  5. I am Canadian so it's Red and White and a Maple Leaf. Easy for my daughter to recognize it. She likes the American Flag too since she really likes Blue and the stars. :)

  6. Red, white and blue for me, too. I have a number of small flags lining my flower bed and fly a big one when we're home.

  7. I'm originally from California (now living in Florida), and the state flag that I grew up with is the California flag with the single star and grizzly bear on it. That means home to me, as well as the stars and stripes of our great United States.

  9. Italian flag is called Tricolore. All the colors represent Italy itself: green stands for the plains & the hills, white for the snowy Alps, red for the bloodshed during the Italian Independence wars. Our regional flag shows a yellow eagle on a blue background. It's officially recognized by the law which protects linguistic minorities

  10. I am from the US, in Kentucky. I love the USA flag, and have one from my great-grandfather's funeral (he was a military man). The flag of KY is also very nice. The saying is United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

  11. I'm in Australia. Our flag is red, white and blue. We have the Union Jack in the top left hand corner, signifying our relationship with Great Britain - Queen Elizabeth II is our Head of State. The Southern Cross star constellation sits on the right & underneath the Union Jack is a star with each point indicating a State or Territory.

  12. Connecticut's flag - On a field of azure blue is an ornamental white shield with three grapevines, each bearing three bunches of purple grapes. The states motto "He who Transplanted Sustains Us" is displayed on a white ribbon. The vines stand for the first settlements of English people who began to move from Massachusetts in the 1630's. These settlements were thought of as grapevines that had been transplanted.

  13. Red, white & blue.... Always proud to display it... and it makes me angry when I see it displayed incorrectly or in a worn-out condition...

  14. I can still remember when our "stars and stripes" went from 48 to 50 stars. There is so much history involved with our flag. I always feel pride in seeing the flag and in the singing of our national anthem.

  15. Texans fly the state flag everywhere. Actually, they're pretty proud of the U.S. flag, too. Whenever I'm driving somewhere on a trip, I notice how many more flags--state and country--I see flying here than anywhere else.

  17. Kim,
Love the pic of the USMC Color Guard on mustangs! !!!RAWR!!!!

We proudly fly the Stars and Stripes all year long. The state flag for South Carolina displays a crescent and Palmetto Tree. The General Assembly adopted the current version of South Carolina’s flag on January 28, 1861. This version added the Palmetto tree to the original design by Colonel William Moultrie in 1775 for use by South Carolina troops during the Revolutionary War. Colonel Moultrie chose a blue color which matched the color of their uniforms and a crescent which reproduced the silver emblem worn on the front of their caps.

The palmetto tree symbolized Colonel Moultrie's heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the attack of the British fleet on June 28, 1776.

South Carolina has quite a bit of Revolutionary history!

  26. The only flag I know of is the US FLAG. We leave it flying outside most of the year. It is special because it stands for freedom and the men and women who have fought for our country.
