Aloha to Katie Porter and DOUBLE DOWN

Tomorrow is Hawaii Statehood Day!   I'll be curious if Las Vegas will be celebrating ... as Hawaiians consider it the ninth island!   Speaking of Las Vegas, it is the setting for Katie Porter's DOUBLE DOWN.  Katie Porter is the collaboration effort of Lorelie Brown and Carrie Lofty.   Lorelie is a veteran ... naturally I invited her to be my guest today!

Kim:  What was your favorite assignment in Army?

Lorelie:  That’s an easy question—my favorite assignment in the Army was being stationed in Italy. Wait, that might be kind of a cheat, because it was while I was an army wife, but how can you beat that? Florence became my favorite city in the world, with amazing food, beautiful art and an atmosphere that was simply lovely. Free and relaxed and fun. We lived in Vicenza, which was about a half hour from Venice. I did New Year’s Eve in Piazza San Marco twice. Once I was even sober enough to remember everything!

Man, I wanna go back. Even though I gained ten pounds from all the pasta. It was worth it!

THE LAST CRUSADE.

Kim:  From your bio, "Writing romance helps her escape a house full of testosterone". Your books seem to be full of testosterone! Where do you find inspiration for writing hot and sexy?

Lorelie:  When I have to tell my middle son to quit digging in his nose, sometimes it’s kind of difficult!

As for where I find inspiration, it really depends on the book. Katie Porter’s January book Lead and Follow and the entire burlesque series were sort of inspired by So You Think You Can Dance. Seeing all those fit men and women in flexible poses to tell romantic mini-stories gets the creative impulses firing! Other times, it’s random things—last night on twitter, a conversation sparked the idea of a drug dealing Victorian debutant. My brain starts working on little puzzles like that. How would I make it work with proper motivation? It’s possible nothing will come of it…but it could possibly be the start of the sequel to Wayward One, my solo historical romance coming out in February.

Kim:  What prompted you to co-write a series with Carrie Lofty as Katie Porter?

Lorelie:  Starting co-writing with Carrie was one of those little puzzles. I went to Las Vegas to accompany my husband on a business trip and I kept seeing signs for a Vegas singles weekend. I couldn’t help but start thinking about a series of contemporary romances featuring Vegas singles…but I couldn’t quite make all the pieces go together. So I started talking it out with Carrie Lofty, who was already my critique partner and go-to source for brainstorming. From there, things spiraled in the best kind of way!

Aggressor Flight at Nellis AFB, Las Vegas

Kim:  Tell us about DOUBLE DOWN

Lorelie:  As part of the 64th Aggressor Squadron, Major Ryan “Fang” Haverty flies like the enemy to teach Allied pilots how not to die. The glittering excess of the Strip can’t compare to the glowing jet engines of his F-16. But a sexy, redheaded waitress in seamed stockings? Now she gets his blood pumping.

Cassandra Whitman’s good-girl ways haven’t earned any slack from her manager ex-boyfriend, or prevented a bad case of frazzle from holding down two and a half jobs. She sure wouldn’t mind letting the handsome Southern charmer shake up her routine.

Their wild weekend lives up to Sin City’s reputation. Especially when they discover a matched passion for roleplaying. For Cass, it’s an exciting departure from her normal, shy persona. But for Ryan, it triggers memories of a time when his fetish drove away the woman he loved—leaving him reluctant to risk a repeat performance.

Except Cass refuses to settle for ordinary ever again. She’s about to show the man with hair-trigger hands that she’s got a few surprise moves of her own.

Warning: This book contains dirty-hot roleplaying, featuring an all-alpha fighter pilot and an ambitious waitress with a fabulous imagination. Also: dressing-room sex, a plaid schoolgirl skirt, and a sprinkling of spankings.

Kim:  What's next for Lorelie Brown and Katie Porter?

Lorelie:  First up is Inside Bet, the second book in the Vegas Top Guns series. You’ll first meet Jon in Double Down, but his woman is all new. Their story will be out 28 August. The third book in the series is Leah’s story, Hold ‘Em and that’ll be out 25 September.

But Katie Porter is a busy girl. In November we have an m/m Christmas special coming out named Came Upon a Midnight Clear. And in February, I have Wayward One coming, also from Samhain. In a dark, sensual twist on Great Expectations, an orphan at a posh boarding school discovers her mysterious benefactor is an underworld crime lord.

  1. Oh, this book sounds soooooo good.

Ok, being Italian I'm sorry I can't have a favorite pasta and sauce. But if I had to choose two the first would be spaghetti with red gravy and my second choice would be fettuccine alfredo.

  2. Anything with Alfredo sauce although I know it's not the most healthy choice.

  3. Like Danielle, being Italian I like everything. If I had to pick one it would be a vegetable lasagna with marinara sauce.

  9. Oh, touch question! The sauce I like is going to depend on the type pasta. Lasagna with a red meat sauce or angel hair pasta with light EVOO and seafood and/or vegatables, spaghetti with meatballs and marinara sauce and so on.

  12. I love Angel Hair pasta (to the extent that spaghetti noodles feel too large to me now) with Alfredo sauce (and a few shrimp and scallops don't hurt either). Thanks for introducing me to a new author (or pair of authors)!

  16. Pretty dull-thin spaghetti and my own meat sause (i.e. cooked hamburg & Ragu). I also raised two boys, so it was three to one for many years (I decorated our one bathroom with BLUE flowery wallpaper)
