Aloha to Debra Webb and POWER

POWER-rev

This past week, my mother and I have watched Granada TV's production of Sherlock Holmes' adventures.  Each night, the celebrated "consulting detective" confronts the FACES OF EVIL in Victoria England ...

... Debra Webb is celebrating the release of the third book in her FACES OF EVIL series, POWER.   Debra joins us today for a cozy chat.  From her bio,

When she met and married the man of her dreams Debra put her writing aside and tried some other occupations, including door-to-door sales, various factories and restaurants, a day care center, a hospital and a department store. Shortly after the birth of her first daughter Debra’s husband joined the military and she decided to go to college. Eventually the U.S. Army took them to Berlin, Germany, and Debra accepted a position as secretary in the commanding general's office. By 1985, they were back in the States, and her next major career move landed her at NASA in the Space Shuttle Program.

Kim:  Berlin - wow! Thank you for your family's service! What was your favorite sight, sound, and smell of the divided city?

Debra:  Thank you so much! Oh my goodness, that's a tough question. We lived in Berlin for three years while the wall was still up. The city was beautiful. I loved the history there. Running into the wall no matter which direction in which you drove was daunting. The armed guards/policemen who patrolled the streets were very different from here at home. The people were wonderful. I loved the language. The smells of the freshly baked bread (the bread was amazing!). And the city sounds (NYC reminds me of that part). Mostly I loved the strength of the people. It was an amazing place to be at a pivotal time in history. Less than four years after we returned to the States the wall came down.

Kim:  I first met you at RT/2007 in Houston. You were very gracious to chat with this fan girl! What do your fans share with you?

Debra:  What a great convention that was and you're a doll for remembering me! I adore the folks who are my fans/friends. They're amazing people and they love the characters in my stories and so do I. So, really we're like extended family. They share what's going on in their lives or what books they're reading. It's a wonderful relationship. I feel very fortunate!

Kim:  Tell us about the FACES OF EVIL series and your new release, POWER!

Debra:  The concept came to me several years ago (at the time it was called the Scales of Justice). I wanted to create a scale of evil and write a series focused on that scale beginning with the least heinous of deeds. Mind you, the least heinous of those evils doesn't exactly equate to light or vanilla when it comes to bad. Even the lowest level of evil can include murder. The seemingly nicest person can snap or be pushed into a situation and end up committing murder. Where that act fits in terms of depravity is all in the motive. As I fleshed out the series I realized it was the motives that intrigued me the most. The impetus for the crime and the differences between the truly heinous villain and the heinous act committed by your average, everyday person. Throw in a focused ensemble cast and I was hooked on writing this series! OBSESSION is really close to my heart because it was first. But I fall in love with the characters a little more with each book! I hope you'll check out the series starting with OBSESSION!

OBSESSION

Mahalo, Debra, for joining us today at SOS Aloha!   POWER is now available as ebooks from Forever Yours:

Agent Jess Harris is back in another thrilling installment of Debra Webb’s Faces of Evil series.

Jess is ready to start the next chapter in her life as the new deputy chief of Birmingham’s major crimes division. But with her first love, Chief of Police Dan Burnett, acting as her new boss, it looks like Jess won’t be able to put the past behind her that easily.

Jess has decided to focus all of her attention on work when a celebrated ballet instructor is found dead by one of her students. Though Jess’s instincts tell her otherwise, the death is ruled an accident, and the case is assigned to another division. Still, Jess can’t shake the feeling that there’s more to the story, and her investigation leads her into the worlds of Birmingham’s gang culture and its powerful elite.

Now Jess’s investigation has dug a little too deep, and there’s a target painted on her own forehead. Will she be able to solve the crime before her own life is in jeopardy?

  4. You know what kind of freshly baked bread I like? The kind I make myself in my bread maker. I love my bread maker. I can make white, wheat, french and even cinnamon rolls. I love the fresh white bread, it's so good. But for breakfast nothing beats fresh cinnamon raisin bread.

  5. I prefer the dark breads like pumpernickel or rye, but I recently found a pecan cranberry bread that I just love. I like it toasted with a light butter. Of course, I wouldn't turn down fresh Italian bread either.
