Hau`oli Lā Hānau - Happy 65th Birthday, United States Air Force!

On September 18, 1947, the United States Air Force became a separate service when President Truman signed the National Security Act.    Sixty five years later, the Air Force engages in world wide operations to preserve peace, provide security, and deliver humanitarian aide.

Off we go into the wild blue yonder,
Climbing high into the sun;
Here they come zooming to meet our thunder,
At 'em boys, Give 'er the gun! (Give 'er the gun now!)
Down we dive, spouting our flame from under,
Off with one helluva roar!
We live in fame or go down in flame. Hey!
Nothing'll stop the U.S. Air Force!

To celebrate the Air Force's birthday, I am giving away an "Aim High" prize package:

PC Cast, Air Force veteran, AWAKENED (audio book)

Cindy Dees, Air Force veteran, HER HERO AFTER DARK

Lynn Raye Harris, Air Force spouse, STRANGER IN THE DESERT

Catherine Mann, Air Force spouse, HOT ZONE:

  3. My boyfriend is a retired USAF veteran as is his father. I'll be sure to let them know. As for me, I prefer large, stable aircraft.

  4. I would like to try all of them while I'm still young and alive!

  6. I do like flying. You will never get me up in a light plane or a hot air balloon & as for parachuting forget it.

  7. I do like flying because it is so fast. I like the bigger planes but would love to try a balloon.

  8. Happy Birthday to the AF. I say this grudgingly, I quite frankly think they should have remained part of the Army. I think we still have more aircraft.

  9. Happy 65th birthday USAF. My husband proudly served 24 years in the USAF.

I like my feet firmly on the ground, but if I had to make a choice on flying, then I would choose a Jumbo Jet.

  10. I love flying. I do prefer bigger planes, not sure about the cessna. No hangliding, balloning,(like seeing hotair ballons in the air) or parachuting. I do love to fly kites. My daughter was furious cause she went out to fly a kite and the cats kept attacking the tail. Also it would not fly because there was no wind. I tried to explain it to her. She just kept yelling at the baby kittens to leave the tail alone.
    What a great giveaway.

  11. I'd love to take a trip in a hot-air balloon. Commercial flying is not very pleasant anymore. We're squeezed like sardines, often waiting for a long time for take-off. Don't get me started!

But, congrats to the USAF. An uncle of mine served proudly through WWII.

  13. For the most part I like to stay grounded but every once in a while a flight is nice. I like normal planes and would like to try a small, private plane one day.

  17. Happy Belated Birthday to the Air Force! Many, many years ago I flew in a 4 passenger airplane (don't remember the type of plane) over the city of Boston at night. What a wonderful experience that was. A number of years after that I had the opportunity to fly with a friend, who had just gotten his license, in a two seater and that was just an exhilarating experience. I've also flown in a number of different sized jets and enjoyed those experiences as well. Taking a hot air balloon ride is on the bucket list (my friend is getting married in one next month!). Also on my bucket list is doing a zipline~~~

  18. Happy Belated Birthday to the Air Force! My husband is former Air Force. Great books you are giving away, Kim! We flew in a 4-seater with friends years ago. It was my first time in a plane (I'm afraid of heights), and I was a nervous wreck the whole time. About a year later, I was in my first big plane. I learned I didn't mind so much as long as I didn't have to sit by the window and look down, and the flight was smooth. It's funny, because I can't get up on a ladder to save me. I get two feet off the ground and I am terrified.

  19. Flying rocks and I would give a hot air balloon a try not too sure about parachuting but the balloon ride would be fun. Happy Birthday to the Air Force and all the men and women who serve in it.

  20. Not much of a flyer. I jumped off a deck once, but that didn't end well. Thanks for the awesome giveaway and Thanks to all our men and women in the armed services fighting for us!

  21. I definitely have to have my feet on the ground. I wish I could overcome this fear of flying. It seems to have gotten worse as I got older. I'm sure the last three times I flew with terrible problems has something to do with it too.
My favorite candy would be anything chocolate & raspberry together. I also love 3 Musketeers.
    Thanks for the chance Kim.

  23. Happy belated birthday to the airforce!!! I, however, do not like to fly at all! From the first flight I took at 23 years old, I have had a severe dislike of it. I still do it, but have to mentally prepare myself. I would prefer to drive whenever possible. :)
