On this day in 1602, the Bodleian Library at Oxford University opened to the public. Oh, imagine what you can learn about Britain! I quench my thirst for Britain culture from Sourcebooks, who publishes books from bubbling Brits like today's guests, Ali McNamara!

Kim: We are Anglo-philes here at SOS Aloha - can you share your favorite sights, sounds, and smells of England?
Ali: It has to be the sea and the beach. We have some stunning coastal scenery here in the UK, especially in the Cornwall area. I love to watch and listen to the crash of the waves against the shore – not typically British I know, but if you add a traditional fish and chips take away eaten outdoors in the paper, then you have something very British indeed!

Kim: I love Cornwall! I see from your website that NYC is your favorite city - what draws you to it?
Ali: NYC has a great energy about it, which I love. I also find the people fascinating and love the diversity of the city. I like the fact that no matter what time of the day or night it is, there’s always something going on and something to see.

Kim: You also wrote that Mr. Richard Curtis is your writing hero! Who is he? What distinguishes his work from other writers? Has he influenced your own writing?
Ali: Richard Curtis is the writer and producer of the movies Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Love Actually. I love the way he sees and writes people with insight and humour. Yes, I definitely think he influenced my first book.

Kim: Tell us about your upcoming US release, FROM NOTTING HILL WITH LOVE ... ACTUALLY!
‘From Notting Hill with Love…Actually’ is about Scarlett, who absolutely adores the movies, but her family and friends think she’s a bit too obsessed by them. So when Scarlett gets the chance to house-sit in one of her favourite movie locations, Notting Hill, she sees this as a chance to prove to them that you really can live your life as if it were a movie.
Ali: My third book – which is a sequel to ‘From Notting Hill with Love...Actually’ called ‘From Notting Hill to New York…Actually’ comes out in the UK in November, and I’m currently writing my fourth book, which I’m very excited about. It has a music theme this time - with a twist!

Mahalo, Ali, for joining us at SOS Aloha. Here's the book blurb for FROM NOTTING HILL WITH LOVE ... ACTUALLY:
She was a girl, standing in front of a boy...
Movie fanatic Scarlett O'Brien dreams of a life as glamorous and romantic as all the big screen flicks she worships. When a chance house-sitting job in iconic Notting Hill comes along, she knows living in one of her favorite movie settings is an opportunity too good to pass up.
Leaving behind her skeptical friends, family, and fiance, Scarlett heads to London and finds herself thrust into the lead role of her very own romantic comedy. But can real life ever be just like the movies? Larger-than-life new friends, a handsome but irksome new neighbor, and a mystery from her past may prove to Scarlett that living her life like a RomCom is more complicated than she thought!
