On this day in 1923, Howard Carter opened Pharaoh Tutankhamun's burial chamber, thereby discovering the largest intact treasure of an Egyptian king.
Howard Carter was financed by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon.
Lord Carnarvon's ancestral home, Highclere Castle, houses his Egyptian antiquities. It is also the film location for DOWNTON ABBEY. DOWNTON ABBEY, like the search for King Tut's tomb, is laced with drama, suspense, mystery, and a dash of romance.

Romance legend Shirlee Busbee knows something about far away places. From her bio (at this link),
Shirlee was born in San Jose, California in 1941. She grew up traveling the world with her parents, two sisters and three brothers as her father was a career navel officer. She attended high school in Morocco.
Kensington re-released Shirlee's romance laced with drama, suspense, and mystery - LOVERS FOREVER:
While fleeing the greedy clutches of her vile cousin, Lady Tess Mandeville is robbed and left for dead in the woods. She awakes with no memory of whom or where she is. But fate intervenes when she wanders into a tavern and is mistaken for a barmaid. Her accidental profession leads her into the arms of Nicholas Talmage, the darkly handsome Earl of Shelbourne, and the two share a night of unrivalled passion. But as Tess' true identity comes to light, they realize their families are locked in a mysterious, decades-old feud that could put an end to their fledgling but fiery romance. As the star-crossed pair search for answers to the secrets of their past, they'll strive to defend an unremitting love that shatters the bounds of time...

Oh yes. It seems like in every Egyptian antiquities there are stories behind it. Very intriguing.
ReplyDeleteOMG! I've been reading her books since the beginning of her career. I think I'm the only one that never watch Downton Abbey.
ReplyDeletePlease do not enter me for this book. Since I still have it on my keeper shelf.
I find Egypt to be fascinating and would love to visit but not now. I to have never seen Downton Abbey and sadly I have no desire to.
ReplyDeleteI have not read Shirlee Busbee in years I loved her books , As I tried other i got side tracked to what I truly love.
ReplyDeleteYes I do enjoy a Treasure Hunt Like searching for that Strong Buff Highlander Now that's a hunt)cough)I could enjoy.....

I like Egyptian stuff especially after reading Elizabeth Peters' books.
ReplyDeleteI love Shirlee's books, and I'm proud to say that I still own some of them. In fact, I have a Hard Back copy of "Lovers Forever" sitting in my bookcase, which I read several years ago. I also picked up a paperback copy of this at the library a couple of weeks ago, so as I can reread it.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, as to your question, I absolutely adore Downton Abbey, and I'm sad that tomorrow is the last episode of the series.
All antiquities, Egyptian and otherwise, fascinate me because of their potential to unlock human history.
ReplyDeleteI've not seen a single episode of Downton Abbey but heard during a radio interview today that the series is a sequel to a book (the title eludes me).
I've always liked seeing Egyptian things. I tend to not spend much time in musuems, but I think if I were to see a display of Egyptian antiques I would abe more likely to spend much more time looking at everything.
ReplyDeleteI've always been fascinated with anything Egyptian. I do believe they had some help from other beings :)
ReplyDeleteI wanted to be an Egyptologist. I am a fan of Downton Abbey.
ReplyDeleteI think Egyptian antiquities are interesting, but I don't know that I'd call myself a fan. Always liked Indiana Jones type treasure hunting - not so much the real thing! Don't watch Downton Abbey.
ReplyDeleteLast summer when I was on vacation in California, my sister and I visited the California Science Center which had a Cleopatra exhibit. It was really great and we learned a lot about Egyptian history, at least in Cleopatra's time. I think treasure hunting is awesome, but I think it costs quite a bit to do that sort of thing these days. I haven't watched Downton Abbey, I know I'm in the minority. :D
ReplyDeleteI think Egyptian history is so cool. I would love to go visit :)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim!
ReplyDeleteAren't Shirlee's books fascinating! I started reading her books in the 1980's and each one is even better than the last!
Since my husband is a Master Stone Mason he has always had a fascination with Egypt and I think he's read every book that has anything to do with the pyramids!
Ironically I got interested in Egyptian antiquities by reading historical romance. I love the way the different authors have woven such interesting information into their stories whether they're set in England or in Egypt itself.
Growing up I always pictured the "workers" building the pyramids as being slaves and was amazed when I found out they were actually valued employees whose families often lived with them and that one of the most important thing was for them to be well fed to be able to do the manual work necessary to accomplish their work.
I can only imagine the things we don't know about the treasures that have been lost or stolen over the years and the knowledge we may have been able to get from those treasures about the people who crafted them.

ReplyDeleteI do like treasure hunting. The stories behind them are so fascinating especially the oens from hundreds of years ago.
ReplyDeleteYears ago the museum had a display of Egyptian antiquities. It was absolutely superb. I'd love to go treasure hunting, so long as it does not involve diving for it. I LOVE DOWNTON ABBEY.

ReplyDeleteian
No to all three. My idea of treasure hunting would be looking for a new awesome book to read.
ReplyDeleteI love books written by Shirlee Busbee, but its been and while. I am definately ready for more.
ReplyDeleteI love treasure hunting. You must understand though that most of my treasures are books! I look for them at library sales, flea markets, garage sales, ebay, department stores, and of course, Book Stores. But the best are the ones that I win in contests!!
I love Egyptian artifacts.. we went to the King Tut exhibit in Indianapolis at the Children's Museum .. and then there's Downton Abbey!!! There is also an exhibit in the basement of replicas of what was brought back to Highclere

I've always thought Egyptian antiquities were fascinating - love The Mummy movies. I'm a fan of Downton Abbey but wasn't thrilled with what happened at the end of this season!
