Aloha to Jacki Delecki and A CHRISTMAS CODE

Lady Gwyneth Beaumont has long awaited the opportunity to show Viscount James Ashworth that she is no longer the impetuous child who dogged his footsteps. Now a much sought-after debutante, she is determined to prove to the hard-headed rake that she is a grown woman and a worthy participant in both the spy game and the game of love.

Ash, recently returned from three years undercover in France in His Majesty’s service, wants nothing more than to complete his final mission and retire to his bucolic country estate. However, what seemed a simple assignment to protect the Prince Regent at a Christmas party turns into a maze of intrigue, desire, and treachery.

Adding to the perilous secret operation is one problem Ash never anticipated: The appearance of the reckless, enticing Gwyneth, who has blossomed into a gorgeous woman and self-appointed spy. When a snooping Gwyneth uncovers a shocking secret, she puts herself in mortal danger.

Can Ash protect Gwyneth and the Prince from French assailants and, at the same time, win the passionate lady's heart?

Can Ash and Gwyneth both triumph as winners in the game of spies and love?

Descended from a long line of storytellers, Jacki spins adventures filled with mystery, healing and romance.

Jacki’s love affair with the arts began at a young age and inspired her to train as a jazz singer and dancer. She has performed many acting roles with Seattle Opera Company and Pacific Northwest Ballet.

Her travels to London and Paris ignited a deep-seated passion to write the romantic, regency The Code Breaker Series. Jacki is certain she spent at least one lifetime dancing in the Moulin Rouge.

Jacki has set her Grayce Walters Mystery Series in Seattle, her long-time home. The city’s unique and colorful locations are a backdrop for her romantic mystery.

Although writing now fills much of her day, she continues to volunteer for Seattle’s Ballet and Opera Companies and leads children’s tours of Pike Street Market. Her volunteer work with Seattle’s homeless shelters influenced one of her main characters in An Inner Fire and Women Under Fire.

Jacki’s two Golden Labs, Gus and Talley, were her constant companions. Their years of devotion and intuition inspired her to write both dogs as heroes in each series.

A geek at heart, Jacki loves superhero movies--a hero’s battle against insurmountable odds. But her heroines don’t have to wear a unitard to fight injustice and battle for the underdog.

Look for more heart-pounding adventure, intrigue, and romance in A Code of the Heart—A Regency Novella, next in the Code Breaker Series, to be released on Valentine’s Day, 2015.

Aloha to Ellen Butler and SECOND CHANCE CHRISTMAS

Oh, Black Friday is too busy for me ... I'd rather focus on romance books! Today Ellen Butler joins me for a cozy chat to promote her new novella, SECOND CHANCE CHRISTMAS.

Kim: Washington, DC - what is your favorite sight, sound, and smell?

Ellen: This is a tough one. There are so many amazing sights in the DC area it’s tough to choose only one. However, I think my favorite would have to be the Lincoln Memorial. There is something majestic about the enormous bronze statue of this illustrious president, yet Lincoln’s kindly expression always made me want to climb into his lap.

My favorite sound would have to be the sound of snowfall. DC is such a busy area with horns beeping, trucks rumbling along and planes flying overhead, but every once in a while we get socked in with snow. Offices close and streets become impassable, and all you hear is the quiet plopping of snow, muffling pedestrian’s steps.

As for my favorite smell, that one is easy. There is a cupcake shop in Georgetown, and when you open the door the scent of sugary goodness wafts past. You take a breath and all your cares and worries float away as the smell envelops you like a warm blanket, and you’re feet automatically take you to the display case of beautifully decorated, tiny little cakes of paradise.

Kim: Who or what helped you transition to "dry professional newsletters" to strong female characters in women's fiction?

Ellen: I’ve always had an over active imagination. I’d read a book or watch a TV show and think, “what would happen if…” and my mind would spin all sorts of tales. However, when I worked for a medical association, there was no place for creative writing. My writing consisted of reports, articles, promotional materials, business correspondence, blah, blah…you get the picture. I remember getting dinged by the company’s editors for using fanciful language and my articles would get cut down to the necessary facts.

However, when my children were born I quit work to stay at home, and my imagination still flowed. I wrote a few outlines, created characters, and ended up stuffing it all in a drawer. When the second child went to preschool and I finally had a few hours of peace to myself, I reached into that drawer and started typing.

Kim: What inspired SECOND CHANCE CHRISTMAS?

Ellen: I’ve lived in the DC area for almost thirty years. Living here comes military – friends, neighbors, colleagues, family. I have the utmost respect for our soldiers and their spouses. Military wives are a part of my life, and I’m proud to have so many of them as my friends. The wives inspired Second Chance Christmas, and it is the reason the dedication reads –

This book is dedicated to all military wives; the nation’s backbone behind our soldiers.

Kim: What's next for Ellen Butler?

Ellen: I have a Women’s Fiction novel titled Poplar Place coming out March 25. It will be available via ebook at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and Smashwords. My agent is currently querying publishers for the first book of a romance trilogy titled Heart of Design, and I am writing the second book of the trilogy, Planning for Love. For blurbs and more information about upcoming novels please visit my website at www.ellenbutler.net.

Mahalo, Ellen, for making my Black Friday a little more romantic! I am looking forward to reading SECOND CHANCE CHRISTMAS:

Prominent DC attorney Emma Taylor is pulled away from a promising date the week before Christmas to pick up her ex-fiance from the ER after a bar fight. She's in no mood to re-open old wounds, but it’s Christmas and she can’t just leave him alone and injured.

Eight hundred eighty-four days. That’s how much time has passed since Major Colton Evans made the biggest mistake of his life. Even after two tours of duty and too much shrapnel in his leg, it’s still the loss of Emma that haunts him. And if he can win her back, he’ll take any chance.

When she insists he stay with her during the holiday, they put out enough sexual electricity to rival the most decorated house on the block. But will it be enough to light the way to a future together?

Ellen offers a jolly excerpt ....

“Beg for mercy.” He slid a hand under my silky blouse and tickled my belly.

“Mercy! Mercy!” I cried.

He immediately stopped his onslaught. My breathing took a few minutes to get in order, but my heart continued to pound as Colton’s humorous demeanor turned serious and his chocolate gaze melted my bones. I froze, unable to turn away, as our game instantly morphed from playful to erotic. His touch turned firm and glided along my torso, stroking the soft flesh below the bra line. For once, libido overruled my good sense and instead of pushing him away, I shivered with anticipation.

Unhurriedly, he eased down to graze my lips. The contact electrified me, sending zings throughout my body, making me tremble. A delicate sigh escaped as his teeth nipped along my jawline before returning to my mouth, this time applying gentle pressure. I opened for him and quietly moaned as his torrid tongue swept along mine, tasting and exploring. My hand glided along his velvet-soft clipped hair, and he shuddered. The tender and undemanding kiss warmed my body and created a molten glow in my nether regions. Eventually, it drew to a close and we broke apart. Silent, we gazed, trying to gauge the other’s reaction. My breath slowed to normal and Colton pulled away.

“Some things never change,” I uttered and touched my swollen lips.

“You’re not going to slap me, are you?”

“Smart ass.”

“Gotta put those extra brains somewhere.” He flashed a smile.

We were pathetic. Neither one of us knew what to do about the kiss. It was so different from Saturday’s near miss, full of hormones and regrets. This one was full of tenderness and affection, and dare I say…hope.

Aloha to Máire Claremont and LADY IN RED

On this day in 1984, from the Space Shuttle Challenger, astronaut Kathryn Sullivan became the first woman to walk through space. Romance author Máire Claremont joins us today as she explores women's struggles in Victorian England with her new release, LADY IN RED.

Kim:  Tell us about your experience as a 2011 Golden Heart Winner - what did you learn about yourself, the publishing industry, and readers?

Máire:  Winning the Golden Heart was an incredible experience. Its something I had fantasized about. Quite literally. I’d be in bed at night, before I’d go to sleep, imagining what it would be like but it seemed like one of those impossible dreams. Just finaling was a HUGE honor. So, when the category came up that night in New York and they called out my name and The Dark Lady, I screamed. My critique partner, bestie, and amazing author pal, Delilah Marvelle screamed and sobbed. The first person I called to tell I’d won was my mom, who was my biggest fan and supporter. I’m so glad she got to see me win and become published before she died of cancer this last year.

What I learned about myself and publishing? Dreams are worth pursuing and there is no dream too big. Is there luck involved? Yes. But to have that luck, you have to suit up and show up. I never could have won if I hadn’t worked hard, listened to my fabulous CP, and entered in the Golden Heart again and again. Publishing is a tough and glorious business, but its not for those who can’t handle rejection. Rejection is a HUGE part of the process. So, I also learned to surround myself with awesome writer friends who were going through the same thing and would provide a shoulder to cry on or a quick pep talk. Romance authors are wonderful, caring, and generous. I feel blessed to have so many of them in my life.

As to readers, the thing that astounds me the most is how my books do genuinely touch people. I’ve received many notes letting me know my stories brought tears to their eyes and took them on emotional journeys. I love having that relationship with my readers. Really, I adore getting to talk with them, meet them face to face, or chat online.

Kim:  What other Gaelic influences did you experience with your family? Do you have a favorite dish? whiskey? saying?

Máire:  I’m not even sure where to start. LOL. I’m Irish by nationality but was raised in the United States. My father was Irish but my mother was a typical American. She was mostly of Irish descent but also German. My childhood was spent listening to Tommy Makem, The Clancy Brothers, The Chieftans, The Wolf Tones, and Irish comedians like Hal Roach. Confession: I was a competitive Irish Step Dancer, you know, like that River Dance business. :D My father made the most AMAZING Irish Soda bread and Christmas Cake. To me, fruit cake is a delicious, fabulous thing but then again, I was lucky and got to eat “proper” fruit cake. I was also lucky enough to travel to Ireland several times, and I’ve also lived there. My favorite saying? “May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows your dead.”

Kim:  What inspired LADY IN RED?

Máire:  I was really drawn to women’s plight in the Victorian period. They had so little power. Victorian women were held to ridiculous standars of propriety and morality. If they slipped at all publically, or suffered financial loss, they were quite literally pushed into prostitution. Also, the diagnosis for Hysteria was rampant. Really, if a woman was living up to her father or husband’s standards or she was discontent, it was absolutely possible for her to be diagnosed with some form of mental illness. I really wanted to explore these women’s lives and give them a chance to have power on the page.

Thank you so much for having me!!!!

2011 Golden Heart winner Máire Claremont first fell in love with Mr. Rochester, not Mr. Darcy. Drawn to his dark snark, she longed to find a tortured hero of her own… until she realized the ramifications of Mr. Rochester locking his first wife up in his attic. Discovering the errors of her ways, Máire now looks for a real-life Darcy and creates deliciously dark heroes on the page. Oh, and she wants everyone to know her name is pronounced Moira. Her parents just had to give her an Irish Gaelic name.

About LADY IN RED:

The Victorian era was full of majestic beauty and scandalous secrets—a time when corsets were the least of a woman’s restrictions, and men could kill or be killed in the name of honor…

Lady Mary Darrel should be the envy of London. Instead, all society believes her dead. For Mary holds a secret so dangerous, her father chose to keep her locked away…and have a grave made for her near her mother’s. Driven to the edge of desperation, Mary manages to escape the asylum, only to find that her fate yet again rests in the hands of a man…

Edward Barrons, Duke of Fairleigh, longs for some way to escape the torment of his father’s crimes. In Mary’s warrior spirit and haunted gaze—which so mirrors his own—he finally sees his path to redemption. He will stop at nothing to keep her safe, even as she seeks revenge. But will the passion they discover in each other be enough to save them from their demons?
