I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.
- The Beatles
The RWA National Conference is now underway in Atlanta. Keynote speaker Cathy Maxwell is celebrating her birthday today ... she'll be laughing with her fans at the "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing (link). I wish I was there to deliver a birthday cake with one big candle! Cathy is always ready to celebrate life. Her can do attitude is reflected in her historical romances, such as her recent re-release, MARRIED IN HASTE, Book 1 in the Marriage series,
Brenn Owens, The Earl of Merton, has come to London to choose a bride. A sexy war hero, he has his pick of the season’s debutantes, and once he spies beautiful Tess Hamilton no other will do.
But Tess has a dark secret she’s desperate to hide—she has no choice but to marry quickly before her family’s ruin becomes grist for the gossip mill. She accepts Brenn’s sudden proposal without telling him the truth, but can she really marry him without feeling she’s betrayed him—especially when he offers ecstasy beyond her wildest dreams? And will he see her subterfuge as a lie?
Cathy Maxwell’s Married in Haste is a historical romance to fall in love with.
I loved this book! Tess applies her own "can do attitude" to survive the unexpected challenges in this delicious Regency Romance. To celebrate the re-release of MARRIED IN HASTE, Cathy is giving away a special set of measuring spoons to four winners. To enter the giveaway,
1. Leave a comment about birthday cake - what's your favorite?
I love Tiramisu even though it is not quite the traditional birthday cake.
2. Cathy's giveaway is open to US residents from Cathy's Birthday, July 17, to my birthday, August 23.
3. I am giving away a copy of MARRIED IN HASTE to one international reader - winner's choice of title and format. My giveaway is also open from July 16 - August 23.
4. I'll post the winner on Sunday, August 25, here at SOS Aloha.

Kim in Hawaii

I really love red velvet cake with whip cream icing. I realize that most people make it with cream cheese frosting but I don't like that.

I love Meringue with caramel cake... so yummy...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to this new book!
I love white cake with either raspberry or lemon filling. I am also a great lover of frosting, I want it thick and sweet.
ReplyDeleteI have to go with white almond cake - I think the first time I had it was at a wedding. Second choice would be swiss chocolate with whipped butter icing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday cake has always been german chocolate cake.
ReplyDeleteHappy (early) Birthday Ladies!!! My fav birthday cake is a cherry cheesecake, made by my mom. It's super rich and with the sour cherries it is simply to die for. I am also a fan of pumpkin pie with loads of cinnamon. But the cheesecake is still the best I think.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Cathy! My favorite birthday cake is chocolate with whipped cream frosting and raspberry filling. Mmmmm...
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! chocolate
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to Cathy. I love the ice cream cake from Carvel.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite birthday cake is actually a pie - it's what I have every year for my birthday - pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Since I was born the day after Halloween, there is usually pumpkin pie to be had for my birthday every year. If I had to choose a cake though, it would be something chocolate with a gooey filling.
ReplyDeleteI love white cake with a raspberry filling with buttercream frosting. Yum.
ReplyDeleteI can not wait to read your new book Cathy, I love the sound of it.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cake is lemon with lemon icing!
The cake above looks good!

ReplyDeleteMy fav is cheesecake.
I'm an international reader.
My children always loved the Caravel Ice Cream Cakes!
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate cake with chocolate frosting.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Cathy!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite cake would probably be an oreo cake. I mean, I love anything to do with chocolate but I love the layers of whipped cream and cookie toppings. Yum!
Happy Birthday to Cathy. It's mine, too, in three days. My favorite birthday cake is a fruit cake, with soft royal icing.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite birthday cake. I've had very few cakes/celebrations throughout my life, so have never given it a thought.
ReplyDeleteI love dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate frosting.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated birthday, Cathy!!
ReplyDeleteI love all kinds of cakes but my favorite would probably be black forest cake!
Hi Kim!
ReplyDeleteThe last time I was able to eat birthday cake was many years ago but growing up my favorite was white cake with white frosting!
Of course whenever someone in my family is having a birthday somehow I get the call to make it - I guess they know I won't eat any and that means all the more for them!
One year when making my husband's cake (his favorite is chocolate with chocolate frosting) our Doug knocked it off the counter and ate the entire cake - frosting and all! I guess he was a "rescue" mutt because he didn't even get sick! Whatever his multiple genes were they must have been good ones!
In a hurry the only thing I could think of making that would be quick (and have the ingredients for) was home-made rice krispie treats - with a candle topping each one!
I'm a lover of the lovely chocolate cake with ganache.
ReplyDeleteI just had my birthday on Friday and I had my usual Carvel Ice Cream cake. It's the only time I have it. Although...one time my friend and I had a craving so we went to the Carvel store (back ten that was the only place to get one) and I had them write "Happy Birthday Harry". Harry was my cat!
ReplyDeleteI am sad that you are leaving Hawaii. Good luck in Baltimore.
Best wishes.

My favorite birthday cake is Devil's Food with white boiled frosting which is somewhere between a meringue and marshmallow. My Mom used to try to make it, but my birthday is around labor day and if it was humid the frosting just wouldn't hold together. This year I will be with my extended family at the SC beach and I'll be making a Vegan Non-Dairy cake (due to family dairy/egg allergies) - it's an applesauce cake and I make orange frosting - it's quite yummy too.
