Perhaps you are curious how we teamed up for this adventure. Back in the spring, I noticed Tracy Solheim's book cover, RISKY GAME, in the Delta Gamma Alumni magazine.  I was a DG from the University of Tampa (UT) ... and Tracy was a DG from the University of Tennessee (UT).  The hero from RISKY GAME plays for the Baltimore Blaze football team. DG, UT, and Baltimore.  We were meant to colloberate!

Tracy and I met for coffee at the RWA National Conference in San Antonio ... and MONDAY NIGHT ROMANCE was born!

Beach Reads Blog Hop - GAME ON, FOOLISH GAMES, and RISKY GAME

Today I am participating in the Beach Reads Blog Hop hosted by Stuck in Books (link).

I just realized that one year ago today, my family arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, after four years of Aloha bliss.  I appreciate the new opportunities that we now have in the Old Line State ... but I sure miss Hawaii, especially the beaches!

The beach is the perfect place to get lost in a romance ... and play football in the sand. In honor of my new home here in Baltimore, I recommend Tracy Solheim's Out of Bounds series, featuring the Baltimore Blaze football players ...

GAME ONE, Book 1:
The only way to win is to score…

With a reputation for fast moves on the gridiron and even faster moves off the field, Shane Devlin was a player in every sense of the word. Unfortunately, his bad-boy persona has made him a risky prospect as a quarterback, and only the Baltimore Blaze are willing to give him a chance. And he’s about to take a hit he never expected.

Working for the Blaze, Carly March knows too well how jocks think—and what they think with—so she’s always made a point of keeping them at arm’s length. But when she shares a kiss with the devilishly handsome Shane, she finds it hard to play by her own rules—and even harder to resist him.

Can a football hero and a business-minded beauty take it all the way? Or will their mutual attraction cost them the big game?

FOOLISH GAME, Book 2:
A Hail Mary play for the heart.

Bridal gown designer, Julianne Marchione knows better than to lose her head at a client’s wedding. But, much to her embarrassment, a mix of migraine medication and a smoking hot football player lead to a steamy one night stand resulting in a surprise pregnancy. Julianne has every intention of leaving her NFL hookup far in the past until her son, Owen, is born with a life-threatening blood disorder that requires a transfusion—and Julianne is not a match.

Will "William the Conqueror" Connelly grew up tough, shouldering the stigma of being a bastard child born on the wrong side of the tracks. He refuses to let any child face the same discrimination. When he finds out about Owen, he’s furious that Julianne kept his son a secret. But when he sees her again at the hospital, he realizes that his feelings for her go far beyond anger.

Will insists that Owen recuperate at his home in North Carolina, and he’s adamant that Julianne become his wife—even if it’s only a temporary marriage in name only. But will their simmering attraction ever lead to a real connection? Or are they just playing foolish games?

RISKY GAME, Book 3:

Brody is at the top of his game… until Shannon changes the rules.

Baltimore Blaze tight end Brody Janik is a natural-born football star. At twenty-seven, his record-breaking athletic performance and his cover-boy good looks have turned him into a household name. But Brody’s hiding a major secret behind his charming public persona: a health condition that may cut his career short.

PhD candidate Shannon "Shay" Everett works multiple jobs to put herself through school—including an unpaid internship with the Blaze training department. Strapped for cash, Shay answers the call of an NFL gossip blogger to uncover personal details about the Blaze players. Sneaking into the locker room one night, she gets entangled in Brody’s secret…and swept up by his charm.

Brody isn’t sure what to make of the gawky girl with the whiskey eyes, especially when he discovers she was snooping. His first instinct is to turn her in as a snitch, but she could destroy him by sharing his secret. Instead, he decides to keep her close…perhaps closer than either of them originally intended…

Check out my five star review on Goodreads at this link.

Author Tracy Solheim has written her share of best sellers and note-worthy books. Unfortunately most of them line the shelves of dusty government offices around the world never to see the light of day. She hopes to change that with her series of contemporary romantic fiction novels published by Berkley Books.

“I guess you could say I’m a frustrated sports writer at heart, but I love writing—and reading—books centered around sports. I can thank my dad for that. He introduced me to Dick Francis novels when I was a teenager and I was hooked. I am also a big fan of the happily ever after endings of romance novels, so it was only natural that I combined the two elements in my fiction debut.”

Aloha to Tracy Solheim and RISKY GAME - Book Review

18667905

Several months ago, I received my sorority alumni magazine, which included a shout out to published authors among the alumni rank. I noticed one name, Tracy Solheim, who I featured at this link for FOOLISH GAMES. I contacted Tracy, we swapped emails about college life, and I learned she is an Air Force brat - term of endearment for military children. She asked if I would like to review her next book, RISKY GAME, set in Baltimore. Could the stars align any more for us?

Tracy may be a sorority sister, may have served as a military brat, and may have set her book in my new home town, but she had to win me over as I infrequently read contemporary romance, let along contemporary romance featuring sports characters. Indeed, she did win me over - I posted a five star review on Goodreads at this link.   RISKY GAME is available tomorrow, May 6, from Berkley Romance:

Baltimore Blaze tight end Brody Janik is a natural-born football star. At twenty-seven, his record-breaking athletic performance and his cover-boy good looks have turned him into a household name. But Brody’s hiding a major secret behind his charming public persona: a health condition that may cut his career short.

A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss... That's the trade-off. But I'll take it all. – Brad Pitt

Football star Brody Janik shares many attributes with Brad Pitt – he is sexy, he is driven, and and he has a big family. Instead of Brady’s six children, Brody has three sisters whom he adores. He is at the height of his athletic career and yet he hides a secret … a secret Shannon “Shay” Everett overhears in the locker room. She could use the cash that this secret would generate from the tabloids. Instead, Shay offers to help Brody overcome it while opening her heart to him.

Solheim delivers an emotional yet romantic romp into today’s modern sports machine. I laughed along with Shay’s antics, Brody’s charm, and his sisters’ interference as the Golden Boy comes to terms with his own limitations while the independent intern realizes that it is okay to accept help, even love, from someone else.

RISKY GAME is Book Three in Solheim’s OUT OF BOUNDS series. Characters from the previous books appear as the supporting cast but allow Brody and Shay to shine on their own. I have not read the previous books (something that I will correct) yet I was able to follow along the storyline.

Recommended read for fans of contemporary settings, sports themes, and Baltimore!

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
