Her biggest writing influences are Georgette Heyer, Robin Schone, and Sylvia Day. Victoria is the founder of Goodreads Romantic Historical Fiction Lovers and the Romantic Historical Lovers book review blog. Look for her hot new contemporary cowboy series coming from Sourcebooks in Fall of 2014.
Victoria joins us for a cozy chat ...
Victoria: I love South Carolina! We live in a small town in the foothills of the Great Smokey Mountains. It’s a very beautiful and peaceful place. Although I was born in Maine and have lived in a number of places, this has always felt like home. I love being able to see the mountains.
Kim: How do you define "smart and sexy" romance?
Victoria: All of my romances, whether historical or contemporary, are meaty stories (well developed plot and multidimensional characters) as well as being scorching hot.
Kim: What elements of Georgette Heyer, Robin Schone, and Sylvia Day influence you?
Victoria: Georgette Heyer is the queen of wit in my opinion. I adore witty repartee and endeavor to bring that to all of my stories. I also admire Robin Schone and Sylvia Day for their subtle but scorching hot sensuality. I think that my love scenes also reflect those qualities.
Kim: Tell us about the Hot Cowboy Nights series - what inspired it?
Victoria: The short answer is my love of cowboys and my desire to bring something totally different to the table. What makes me different is my obsession with bringing a strong sense of reality to the stories. I want my characters to feel genuine and real, people you would want to know. I think readers will be surprised by the world building and character depth, especially in the second and third books.
Kim: What's next for Victoria Vane?
Victoria: Although I will always return to historicals as my first love, for the next eighteen months I am very much grounded in the present with two contemporary series contracted with two different publishers. with seven hot contemporary romances I have 4 novels coming from Sourcebooks (Slow Hand, Rough Rider, Straight Shooter and Silver Tongue) and 3 novellas from Kensington in a hot Las Vegas set series called Hotel Rodeo. Both publishers have left the option open to add more titles to these series if they do well.

Great interview.
ReplyDeleteThanks Danielle! It was fun!
DeleteYul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven or Little Joe on Bonanza to name just two.
ReplyDeleteCatslady! Great cowboys! My favorite is probably Tom Selleck. He cuts a danmed fine figure on a horse!
DeleteOH, I agree Tom Selleck is a good cowboy. Though I also like Daniel Craig...like in Cowboys and Aliens. He made for a good cowboy. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved all of Clint Eastwood's spaghetti westerns.
