Forensic anthropologist Victoria Palmer has always been better with the dead than the living. Shutting down her emotions, she lets few people in. But then Victoria’s latest investigation takes her and agent Wade Monroe to Savannah, Georgia. Handsome, dangerous, and more than ready to play dirty on any case, Wade weakens Victoria’s aloofness with just one glance.

…TO LOVERS
Wade knows their recent cases have pushed Victoria beyond her limits. But her skills are crucial to finding a college student who went missing five years ago. Victoria is able to determine she was murdered, and that the killer is still on the loose.

Aloha to Cynthia Eden and SHATTERED

24403669

Cynthia Eden always greets me at conventions with a big smile. She joins us for a cozy chat to celebrate the release of SHATTERED, Book Three in her LOST series ...

Award-winning author Cynthia Eden writes dark tales of paranormal romance and romantic suspense. She is a New York Times, USA Today, Digital Book World, and IndieReader best-seller. Cynthia is also a three-time finalist for the prestigious RITA® award . Since she began writing full-time in 2005, Cynthia has written over fifty novels and novellas.

Cynthia is a “hybrid” author. She has published extensively with New York (her New York publishers include Avon, Kensington, Grand Central, and Harlequin), and she has also enjoyed success in her indie writing career.

Cynthia lives along the Alabama Gulf Coast. She loves romance novels, horror movies, and chocolate. Her favorite hobbies including hiking in the mountains (searching for waterfalls) and spelunking.

Learn more about Cynthia at cynthiaeden.com.

Kim:  Alabama! What is your favorite sight, smell, and sound of the Heart of Dixie?

Cynthia:  I love our beautiful beaches! I am just a short, thirty-minute ride from the Gulf of Mexico, and I love visiting those sandy shores. So my favorite sight would be the beach, my favorite smell would be the salty air, and my fave sound is the crashing of the waves on the shore.

Kim:  From your random facts, what's your favorite quote from the Princess Bride? Have you based any of your heroines on Lois Lane? Have any plots included spelunking?

Cynthia:  Of course, my favorite Princess Bride quote *has* to be “As you wish…” I just wish I could get my husband to tell me that in answer to everything!

The heroine of MIDNIGHT’S MASTER was a reporter who shared many Lois Lane characteristics. ;) I love a spunky reporter!!!

And I have included spelunking in a book—I couldn’t resist! In SCREAM FOR ME (romantic suspense), my villain took his victims deep into a cave. So the hero and heroine had to track him by going through a series of deep tunnels under the ground. That story gave me the chance to remind all would-be cave explorers of the caving motto… “Always carry three lights!” Because no one wants to ever be trapped in total cave darkness. (In that instance, you wouldn’t even be able to see your own hand if it was placed right before your eyes.) Sorry—I just went off on a caving tangent!

Kim:  Tell us about SHATTERED - what inspired it?

Cynthia:  I’ve written about a few serial killers in my romantic suspense novels, and when I wrote those characters, I found myself thinking…even serial killers have family. And that made me wonder…what would it be like to have a family member who was a serial killer? In SHATTERED, my heroine, Sarah Jacobs, is a profiler—she can get into the mind of a killer like no other person can. Sarah was trained to be this way—trained by her father, an infamous serial killer known as Murphy the Monster.

Mahalo, Cynthia, for giving a glimpse of your romantic life!  I am giving away a print copy of SHATTERED to one randomly selected commenter.

Criminal psychologist Dr. Sarah Jacobs is all too familiar with the kind of bad boys who belong behind bars. But the dark, dangerous man she meets in the New Orleans underworld is a new kind of ruthless, and all too irresistible.

Jax Fontaine doesn't claim to be a good guy, but he's loyal to his own code and brutally honest about what he wants. He and Sarah may be worlds apart, but when they're skin to skin, nothing matters but the heat between them.

And when a deranged killer targets Sarah, Jax will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.

To enter the giveaway,

1.  Leave a comment about Alabama - what do you know about it?

I know the battleship USS Alabama is anchored in Mobile Bay as a memorial park at this link.

2.  Comments are open through Saturday, October 31, 10 pm in Baltimore.

3.  I'll post the winner on Sunday, November 1.

Cynthia offers an excerpt from BROKEN ...

“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”

“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—”

“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.

Gabe nodded.

“When will we know?”

It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.

“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”

His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.

She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.

For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.

She’s a client. Focus.

He let her go, but his body ached.

“I … um … I should get inside.”

Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.

Her fingers reached for the door.

“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.

He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body. And he still wanted her.

“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.

Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—”

“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”

Oh, hell, she’d just said … He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—”

“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”

He stopped talking.

“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me … as a woman.”

“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.

“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”

Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?

“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just … I needed to tell you that.”

And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.

“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”

He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—

“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”

Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type? She was probably every damn man’s type.

“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—”

His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve …”

Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m …” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.

Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.

From him.

He stared after her. She wanted him.

1. How has cancer touched you personally?

I’ve watched friends and family members battle cancer too many times. Every battle breaks my heart. I’m ready for cancer to be defeated, once and for all! I don’t want to lose anyone else that I love to cancer. No more!!! I want a world that is cancer-free.

2. Why did you participate in the LAST HERO STANDING fundraiser for fellow author Pamela Clare?

I participated in this anthology because—quite simply—I think Pamela Clare is amazing. She is an incredibly strong woman, and I would do anything I could to assist Pamela in her fight with cancer.

Cynthia offers an excerpt from First Taste of Darkness

“I promise, you’re safe with me.” A new intensity had entered his voice, one that gave her pause. Again, Jess wished that she could see him better. She wished that she could look deep into his eyes.

The limo’s interior had seemed huge to her moments before, but it suddenly felt very small. Or maybe Blake was just too big. His wide shoulders stretched, filling the space, and he seemed to cage her next to him.

“When dawn comes,” her words weren’t as sharp anymore, “I get to leave?”

“If that’s what you want.”

Jess nodded. Sure, that was exactly what she’d want.

His fingers trailed down her cheek, then slipped over the curve of her neck. “Your pulse is racing so fast.”

She swallowed and knew he felt the small movement. “Being shot at will do that to me.”

Blake laughed. The sound sent a shiver over her. A man’s laugh shouldn’t be so sexy. “You are unexpected.”

Uh, okay.

He bent his head. His mouth replaced his hand on her neck. He kissed her lightly. Softly. And then she felt the rasp of his tongue on her throat.

Jess’s fingers dug into that fancy leather seat.

“Once you step into my world,” he murmured, and the edge of his teeth scored her flesh, “you may not want to leave.”

Her eyes had drifted closed, and Jess was working really hard to hold back a moan, so she barely heard his words.

A shoot-out, a seduction in the back of a limo—that was probably commonplace for him.

Not for her.
