Tomorrow is the 55th anniversary of Hawaii's admission as the 50th State. The National Archives provides an excellent timeline leading up to Statehood (link):
Letter from Liliuokalani, Queen of Hawaii to U.S. House of Representatives protesting U.S. assertion of ownership of Hawaii, December 19, 1898
President William McKinley's nomination of Sanford B. Dole to be Governor of the Territory of Hawaii, May 4, 1900
Certificate of Election for Representative Daniel K. Inouye, August 21, 1959, as Hawaii's first voting member of the U.S. House of Representatives
This collection of contemporary and historical short stories and poems showcases many talented writers of Hawaii. The common setting, the Sunset Inn, provides the creative spark and paints a picture of rural Oahu as part fact, part fantasy. Set on the North Shore of Oahu, the traditional two-story Sunset Inn plays host at different times in its long history. Over the years, people come and go, but the inn abides, waiting for its next visitor, its next story.
