An Excerpt:

He pulled out a couple of mugs while she warmed up the cocoa. He chuckled and she turned to see what was funny and nearly had a heart attack.

He was holding one hot pink and white mug while reading it, the other sitting on the counter: Men should be like my curtains, easy to pull and well hung.

Her lips parted, she had to have turned cherry red, and she turned away quickly before she burned the cocoa. Now what? Explain that a friend had given them to her when her last boyfriend and she had parted company? Or just ignore the fact that they were drinking out of those cups while she was having hot cocoa with him and pretend she wasn’t embarrassed to the tip of her toes?

He brought the mugs over. “Anything else?”

“There’s a can of whipped cream in the fridge, if you want some.”

“Real cream,” he said, eyeing the can. “Looks good.” He gave it to her, and he lifted the mugs.

She shook up the can and pointed it at the right mug, pushed the nozzle, and the cream dripped and fizzled. Not to be thwarted, she shook it again, hoping that it wasn’t defective. And then the whipped cream swirled around with perfect ridges in a twirl on top with a cute little pointy peak. Perfect.

Then she turned to the other mug, shook the can again, and pushed the nozzle. It was working great until halfway through her little mountain of whipped cream twirling to perfection, when the nozzle malfunctioned again and spewed whipped cream everywhere.

In horror, she stopped what she was doing and stared at the white cream splattered all over Allan’s chest and a few that had dotted his boxer briefs. Her mouth agape, she glanced up at him.

His eyes sparkled with mirth and he laughed.

“Oh, oh, let me get something to wipe it up,” she said, belatedly, and set the can of whipped cream on the counter.

She grabbed some paper towels and wetted them, then rushed back to wipe the mess up. He was still holding onto both hot pink mugs of cocoa. She had every intention of taking one of the mugs and letting him clean himself, but he just moved his arms apart as if to say she made the mess, she could wash it up.

She thought she was going to die. Yes, he was totally hot. And yes, she’d fantasized about making love to him—since they were both unattached, and she truly liked him. But in her wildest dreams she would never have imagined making him cocoa in the middle of the night in her duplex while he stood in sexy silk briefs, not baggy, but nice and form fitting, and then she proceeded to splatter him with whipped cream. All over his tanned chest and those black briefs.

Aloha to Terry Spear and SEAL WOLF HUNTING

Meet the Bachelors of Cottage Grove

Full Name: Allan Rappaport

Occupation: SEAL and now Special Undercover Operative

Height: 6 ft

Hair Color: Dark brown hair

Eye Color: Green

Age: 30

Wolf: Gray

Originally from: Northern Montana

What makes you the perfect date?

I’m all wolf, which means I’m completely protective and loyal. What more can a gal want? I love the outdoors, but I’m good with the typical dates—movies, dinners out, and I’m totally considerate and caring.

About the SEAL WOLF HUNTING ...

Paul Cunningham has eluded many traps in his long career as a Navy SEAL, but there’s no way out of this one. On a rare visit home, he gets “volunteered” for a local charity bachelor auction, and the community is counting on him. Then he discovers that the sexy she-wolf with the winning ticket is Lori Greypaw—the one woman he could never resist. And she has plans for Paul that go way beyond a simple date. For the first time in his bachelor life, this alpha wolf SEAL is going to have to prove his worth…

Sourcebooks offers an excerpt from SEAL WOLF HUNTING:

Allan was next up, and the bidding was going strong as he got into the fun of the auction, flexing his muscles and smiling brightly.

“Way to go, SEAL!” Lori and Rose shouted.

“Take off your shirt!” Emma shouted.

Catherine whooped and whistled. Paul had to smile at Emma and Catherine.

Lori’s face reddened a bit, probably because her own grandma had shouted out the recommendation.

Allan began unbuttoning his shirt slowly and the crowd went wild.

Paul laughed. He hadn’t thought that a honey-do bachelor auction would be anything like this. Then again, Emma was a wolf and they could change the dynamics of a situation in a heartbeat. The ranch hands made a big deal of jerking their shirts out of their waistbands and then starting to unbutton them.

A woman shouted, “Just the shirts, gentlemen.”

And that had everyone laughing.

Stripper music began to play, and Paul removed his shirt to the beat like the others did.

Clapping hands, wolf whistles, and shouts indicated the women were just as excited to bid for the SEALs as they were for the cowboys.

Paul tossed his shirt to Lori for safekeeping. When she grabbed the shirt and held it close, he smiled at her.

Allan went for two hundred and fifty dollars to a lady wearing a pink cowboy hat…”

Sorucebooks offers an excerpt from JAGUAR PRIDE:

Once inside the park, Melissa and Huntley trekked for miles, not seeing much of anyone or anything, not with the way the rains were coming down in torrents in the steamy rainforest. They hadn’t found any sign of Jackson. Just a few hikers, hardier than most, who endured the rains and mud to see glimpses of wildlife here and there. When Melissa and Huntley finally set up camp for the night, she felt wet and miserable. And she couldn’t believe how Huntley looked like he could go on for several more hours when she was totally beat.

She should have regretted not sleeping more last night. But making love to him was what she’d needed. Not that she thought anything permanent was likely to come out of the relationship.

Just the same, she’d needed to feel sexy and wanted and loved. Huntley gave that to her and more. So when he’d wanted more, she just couldn’t say no, despite knowing that she needed a good seven hours of sleep to feel normal the next day.

She was thinking of Jackson and how he had slipped away from them the first time. She hoped they’d find him soon. Then gunshots fired off in the distance.

Her heart skipped a couple of beats.

“We don’t have time to take down the tent. Do we go as humans or jaguars?” Huntley quickly asked her.

She loved that about him—how he always included her in the decision making. “If they’re rangers or police, I want to go as humans. Even if they’re poachers, I think we’ll be safer if we look like we are ‘tourists.’ We can always shift when we get there if we need to.”

“Sounds good.”

At least they were armed with tranquilizer guns this time.

Aloha to Terry Spear and JAGUAR HUNT

The RT Booklovers' Convention gave me to catch up with my favorite authors, including my fellow RomVets, including Terry Spear!  Terry is celebrating the release of JAGUAR HUNT and joins me for a chat about the RT Booklovers' Convention ....

Romantic Times Booklovers Convention—
and What It Meant to Me

I was a virgin! I had never been to the RT Booklovers Convention, and in fact, last year was the first time I had attended any readers’ conventions—mainly because I had been working full time and writing full time, so didn’t have any spare moments except to visit family.

I signed up for as many reader-reach-out venues that I could. It’s important because: there are so many people, you get lost in the crowd, and I’m not outgoing. Truly! So for me seeing a sea of people, none of whom I know, it’s hard for me to meet up with readers who love my books.

I had been asked to participate in the Pirates and Scalawags party because I write Highland medieval, and I was thrilled. I had several booksellers tell me how much their readers love my books, and the same with readers and reviewers. You can’t know how special it makes me feel when readers wanted to take a picture with me because I was one of their favorite authors. When I’m bogged down in trying to figure out my next story, or where the current one is going, or working on edits, it can be overwhelming. But when readers tell me how much they love my wolf or jaguar worlds and started reading about my Highlanders or fae, or how they read my Highlander and fae books and have suddenly discovered the hot wolves and jaguar shifters, I’m ready to jump into the books again and write my heart out.

Without positive feedback, I can find writing isolating. Although I will say as I’m fighting through the conflict in the worlds, I sometimes forget that. I mean, when you’ve got to focus on being with David in the waterfall pool right after he shifts from his jaguar form, it’s hard to feel I’m…alone. Which is just the way it should be. Hot, hot, hot, in the steamy jungle with a sexy jaguar—this one in Jaguar Hunt.

Yummm.

I did two personal appearances at the RT Book Club. Had a ball. In the one, a group of us got together to provide a huge, fantastic gift bag full of books and so many other wonderful treasures that it was truly…well, fantastic. The other authors and I had so much fun that we decided to pick the same time slot and do it again next year. And even do both slots that way.

Then, the next day, I was on my own, so I dragged a fellow author, and my roommate with me, who hadn’t had time to sign up and they were fine with it, so Ashlyn Chase and I had fun. I had several books to give away and met several bloggers who love my wolf and jaguar world, so they were delighted to receive autographed copies and took pictures with me. Now, I have to say, I would really much rather everyone took pictures of the books. LOL They’re MUCH more photogenic. But I loved it!

I also enjoyed the booksellers, bloggers, reviewers event put on by Sourcebooks, and there, signed a bunch of copies of the books they were giving away. And that was really nice. I also met with a new reviewer and am excited to correspond with her further.

A group of us, CH Admirand, Ashley Chase, Sara Humphries, and our coordinator, Jennilinh Dinh, had a lovely pizza and cupcake party for readers in our room and we had lots of fun and gave away a number of prizes and autographed books.

I participated in a number of events with a couple of fans, and then the last day, I thoroughly enjoyed the veterans’ program that was truly touching. Kim and others had done a wonderful job. And next year, when I’m not such a virgin and know what’s going on, I hope to bring some SEAL wolf books with me to give away.

Last, I participated in Pin the Kilt on the Highlander. I had tried to get into a paranormal panel, one that didn’t make, and actually was asked at the last minute to join another paranormal panel, but I was already committed to the Highland one that was slotted for the same time. Eliza Knight, Mary Wine, and I all hosted a game party and had two of Kim Killion’s models helping out, so we had lots of fun. Again, I had a lot of wolf and jaguar fans come up and tell me how much they loved the books and now wanted to try out the Highland ones they didn’t know I write. Next year, as we’ve been asked if we’ll do it again, I will bring Highland wolf books as giveaways too, because a wolf in a kilt is just as a hot as a Highlander in medieval times, and they still are—sexy Highlanders.

My final farewell, was lunch with a fan, student of my online writing classes and her critique partner, before I made the long drive to Houston. We had a great time, and will hook up for Readers and Ritas in November in Dallas where I will have fun visiting with readers all over again.

I had a blast at RT and am looking forward to it next year with all kinds of plans already! But first, I have RWA in San Antonio in May; Authors after Dark in Charlotte in August; a book signing and visit to the International Wolf Center, Sept/Oct in Minnesota, Readers and Ritas, Dallas in November; Coastal Magic in Daytona in February; Barbara Vey’s Readers Convention in Milwaukee in April; a trip to a wolf reserve in New Mexico in April, where five of my fans are joining me to have a blast, and then, RT in May!

Thanks for the wonderful program you and the other Romvets put on for the SOS America Military Tribute, Kim. It was lovely!

If you went to RT, what did you have the most fun at? If not, where would you like to go if there was a reader’s convention somewhere else?
