It's always a great day when we chat about Cathy Maxwell and her books. This past week, Avon re-released THE WEDDING WAGER:
From New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell comes a romance about a headstrong young lady determined to marry . . .
Mary Gates longs to restore the family stables to their former glory . . . so she bids on the famous Spender Stud. The only way she can pay for the beast is to marry, but her only prospect is her neighbor and chief rival, Tye Barlow. She has been tempted by his charms in the past—but she's determined not to give in to him now.
So Mary boldly goes to where the husbands are—London. She takes the town by storm, but the marital prospects are uninspiring when compared to Tye. He's followed her, determined to thwart her plans. Still she can't help but forget his protective embrace or tantalizing kisses.
And soon Mary realizes she may have to take the greatest gamble of all . . .
I have the original cover from 2001. I asked Cathy to autograph it when I first met her in 2007. It remains in my coveted keeper shelf. The heroine is just as crazy about horses as Cathy. From her Goodreads bio,
CATHY MAXWELL spends hours in front of her computer pondering the question, "Why do people fall in love?" It remains for her the mystery of life and the secret to happiness.
She lives in beautiful Virginia with her children, horses, dogs, and cats.

" I admire them from afar ..." Ha! You sound like me *Grin* That about sums up my experience with them.
ReplyDeleteI walk by them when I take my child to school. Does that count.
ReplyDeleteLike them ,was born year of horses

Like you, Kim, I too enjoy horses from afar. I was a bit traumatized from the pony that I was riding running off with me when I was young. People had to chase after us and put a stop to the horse. I'm afraid I never got over that experience, so horses are lovely to look at, but not to ride for me!
ReplyDeleteI need to pick this book up! As for horses, I think they're beautiful. Haven't had much experience with them in real life but I did ride a pony once when I was little and patted them at the zoo. LOL
ReplyDeleteAnd I do love reading about them in romances. Always there in the background. :D
like them
ReplyDeleteWhile I have sat on a horse or two in my life, I too appreciate them more from a distance. They are beautiful creatures.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't common at all where I live but I think they are beautiful, noble creatures.
ReplyDeleteI like horses in principle.. My next door neighbor has 2 and I never realized that they could be a lot of fun and work!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter used to compete in riding. I spent many hours in stables.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a very young girl, my parents took me to go for rides. Outside of that, nothing.

I love going to the race track that's about it for my love of horses.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid I took riding lessons one summer. Horse stepped on my foot but managed to win a couple of blue ribbons at the 'show' at the end of the summer. Have ridden several times on trail rides and really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteI loved them as a child - at least what I knew from pictures and books. I rode one up a moutain side once (the guides then switched horses on me) and it fell - don't think I'd like repeating that lol.
ReplyDeleteI also "admire" them from afar. There's something wrong w/ trying to tell a much larger animal what to do in my humble opinion :)
ReplyDeleteI adored horses as a child but they were forever throwing me, fighting with each other with me between and otherwise being bad. Now hubby's got one.
ReplyDeleteNot a horse person. But I love Cathy's book. This is one of my favorites!!
ReplyDeleteI have not had much experience with horses, but I have ridden one a couple of times. They are sure beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMy experiences with horses has been minimal, mostly because of the expense to purchase and care for one...and have the space to stable one. Those three things have prevented me owning one, although I've long admired the handsome beasts. I grew up on a ranch farm in Southern California and was around horses a lot. My grandfather, and then my father's brother after my grandfather died, owned a horse named King who was so patient and tame for us kids to ride around on. King lived to be 21 years old and it was a sad day when he just laid down for his final rest. I love horse stories and horse races as I think they are truly magnificent creatures and I like to watch them and read about them. Thanks for asking! jdh2690@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI've never ridden a horse, but would like to try it sometime.
ReplyDeleteI've always loved horses - took a few lessons when I was a kid, but it's a very expensive hobby and needs a lot of time dedicated to it.
ReplyDeleteI think horses are such beautiful animals. I love looking at them as the run, so graceful and the picture of strength. When I was much much younger I used to go to a ranch to see all the horses and it was the highlight of my day. But I have never ridden.

The only times I've ridden horses, I was on plodders, which was probably just as well, since I didn't really know how to control them. I've always loved them, though.
ReplyDeleteI've never ridden one, so I like them from afar. I think they're just too tall for me. LOL

I rode one once when we were on vacation. I was 12 years old and was given a gentle giant to ride. The only problem was that the horse decided it was thirsty and waded into a creek to get a drink. Th eman that was leading us had to come get me and my horse. Lol!
ReplyDeleteI think horses are wonderful, from a distance. I'm a bit intimidated, they're so big, but I know they form bonds with people so if I had the chance to be friends with one I would be happy to do it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I always wanted to learn to ride them but it was something I never got around to doing.
