Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger and HEAVEN-SENT WARRIOR - With Giveaway!

Asleep inside a bronze statue, a naked Frenchman wakes a century later to save a half-Fae art museum curator from a demon bent on ruling our present-day world.

That’s just a small part of who Henrí Chevalier is. My reluctant hero in Heaven-sent Warrior had a crude upbringing in Paris, France during the 19th century. Well before he appeared naked one night on the grounds of a present-day art museum, and before becoming a model for the sculptor Auguste Rodin, he fought in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870 at age 16.

As a farmhand on his uncle’s farm, he was caught behind barricades while delivering goods to a Paris marketplace. He took up arms during a brutal siege now referred to as the War of 1870, which lasted 10 days. Henrí had no idea that on July 16 1870 the French parliament would vote to declare war on the German Kingdom of Prussia. He had carried a Chassepot rifle, a bolt-action military breech-loading rifle. He said he had little choice but to take up arms and fight. He told Kenzie “We lost, but my appearance saved me.” She asked why, and he shared that they took him for a young lad and sent him back to his uncle’s farm. He added “At sixteen, I was pathetically small for my age.” In my story, Henrí has to force memories of death, blood, and needless carnage back inside the dark place in his mind.

Henrí Chevalier's last memory, before stumbling naked into a museum’s moonlit garden, was Auguste Rodin and his dusty Paris studio in 1886. To escape his broken heart, Henrí volunteered to sleep inside a statue until needed. Expecting to die, he discovers he must learn to use the unexpected powers Heaven has given him. Without them he will fail his mission against otherworldly creatures, such as demons and faeries.

Kenzie Mackintosh, a dedicated art museum's curator, spies a naked man hiding among the bronze statues. A quick glance ignites desire within her, but she is too tied-up in work to act on it. Unaware of her fae heritage, their relationship heats up as he disrupts her job. While Henrí tries to process modern buildings, cars, and a broken elevator, a demon attacks and forces Henrí and Kenzie to enlist the aid of her powerful fae relatives. When the demon possesses the body of her ex-lover and threatens to kill him, then use her to take over the world, Henrí and Kenzie must learn to trust each other, even if Kenzie’s death might be the only answer to the world’s salvation.

Nancy offers an except from HEAVEN-SENT WARRIOR ...

A server arrived and poured coffee into two mugs. Kenzie ordered for them both. Henrí stared at the cups. His brows arched in wonder. How strange. “Don’t the French drink coffee?”

He nodded, sipped, and then cried out.

“Merde! It is hotter than the fires of Hell. And bitter.”

“I should have warned you. Blow on it, and try adding sugar.” Kenzie tossed a couple of sugar packets to him. He glared at her and then at the packets. Shaking her head, she ripped one open and dumped the contents into his cup, and passed him a spoon. “Spoon. Stir. Drink.”

Henrí followed her command like a soldier in the field. She recalled how earlier, when first awakening, he seemed to search for his weapon.

“You were in the military?” she asked, watching him sip his sweetened coffee.

“Oui. I grew bored of working my uncle’s farm from dawn to dusk.” Henrí sipped his coffee. His eyes grew unfocused. “I assumed to fight for my country would prove the ultimate test of a man’s courage.”

“What about your family? They must have worried.”

He waved one hand through the air as if the subject meant nothing.

“How could they not care?”

“I had no family besides my uncle. He missed my free labor, but I wanted a different life. A life other than farm chores and stinking beasts. Funny.”

“What’s funny?”

He sipped his coffee before answering. “When the battle started, when I was surrounded by the dead and dying, with shells exploding around me, I missed that stinking little farm.” He laughed, but it didn’t reach his eyes.

Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger and WITH EVERY KISS (An Opportunity Falls Novel)

Nancy Lee Badger joins us today for a sneak peak to WITH EVERY KISS ...

My newly released contemporary romance novel is about an artist bored with city life and a Manhattan lawyer itching to escape his father’s control. They meet briefly, then meet up again in a New Hampshire campground. Creating the story was easy; I grew up in the shadow of New York City, enjoying high school trips to art galleries in Manhattan.

I fell in love with the rural life of New England while attending art school. The mountains and waterfalls were lovely and romantic.

Several visits, later in life, to campgrounds alongside New England rivers and lakes helped me visualize the settings found in With Every Kiss; an Opportunity Falls novel.

A recent trip from my current home in North Carolina took me through New England. I gazed at the mountains, rivers, wildlife, and autumn leaves that reminded me why I had written this book. A trip across the Long Island Sound on a Ferry, a visit with family, and a couple of cemeteries, was a blast from the past. We visited the home I left to head off to college in New Hampshire when I was 17 (many years ago!).

A quick Wikipedia factoid – The city of Manhattan currently has a population of 1.6 million, whereas the entire state of New Hampshire has only 1.3 million. Talk about culture shock!

Heading back to North Carolina, our drive took us through traffic near Kennedy Airport, busy Brooklyn neighborhoods, then over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island. New Jersey looked as congested as ever, and we stopped for the night near Baltimore. I miss both New Hampshire and Manhattan already!

*a personal note- With Every Kiss: an Opportunity Falls novel was released November 3rd. Since this is also my birthday month, I am giving away an Artist’s Assortment of Goodies. No purchase necessary, and it ends November 18th.

Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger and SHIMMER - THE BEGINNING

Nancy Lee Badger brings you a love story called SHIMMER, a prequel to her Clan of Dragon series. A long time ago, off the coast of Scotland’s Isle of Skye, something incredible began. Among lush green forests, flower-filled meadows, and black jagged mountains, stagnant pools of algae and muck rush to the sea. Robina, daughter of the fairy king, threw wish dust to create a cool, clear, sweet-smelling fairy pool. When a huge black winged creature fell from the sky, she feared her very life was in danger. She never thought she would lose her heart.

Duff, a dragon, was dying, and his hopes to find a mate and produce offspring looked bleak. Drinking from a pool at the base of a waterfall, he sensed another otherworldly creature lurking nearby. A dragon, claiming she was no dragon, knocked him off his feet. When she threw the dust, Duff learned about her ability to shift. As they fought human hunters, and a dark fairy, Robina stole his heart. He surprised her by shifting multiple times without her magical help.

Nancy Lee Badger wrote this novella to explain how dragons on the Scottish island of Skye became shape-shifters. She has filled this paranormal fantasy with romance, danger, fairies, and characters you will love, and one or two you might hate. Enjoy this explanation of her very powerful series, Clan of Dragons with Spark, Smoke, and Smolder.

Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger and SMOLDER

Today I am happy to help Nancy Lee Badger, the multi-published and award winning author, announce her 19th book - SMOLDER! Nancy has used her love of all things Scottish, as well as years as a volunteer at a Scottish festival, to take her readers to Alba.

SMOLDER is the third book in the Clan of Dragon series - paranormal fantasy romance. It is set centuries ago on the Scottish island of Skye.

An interesting side note: Nancy’s son, Eric Badger, a former army drill sergeant, is the cover model for all three books in the series. The tattoo shown on all the covers is actually on his back, a remembrance of his 9 years in the United States Army.

3083733131039626

Book Blurb:

Fiona, a white doe, searches for her missing friend across Skye. Shifting, she swims in a fairy pool, until a dragon and two humans arrive. Their conversation about a festival makes her wonder if her friend might also visit the village.

Dougal, tasked with the safety of his kin while they celebrate Beltane, shifts into a human form. He would rather fly high, or race through the forest as a red stag. Spying the white doe he has sought for months, he follows her, but pirates, a villain, and drunken celebrators keep him from his task. Will he ever find her, and make her his? A dragon-shifter in pain wants nothing more than to fly, and he sure as hell kneels to no one.

Excerpt from Smolder:

“I be…a relation of Cliona Black. I be looking for her, as she seems to have disappeared from…our home.”

“Liar!”

Fiona sputtered, as if taken aback by the anger behind his accusation.

“You be not related to Cliona. You look like her, but why do you lie to me?” Dougal said. His Cliona had no family beside him, but the resemblance was uncanny. He could not let her out of his sight until she answered him. He tightened his grip.

Fiona gasped. “You be hurting me, sir. I shall try to answer you, but not while imprisoned.”

As he glared at her, the scent of smoldering ash replaced the aroma of the fresh bread. His inner dragon screamed to be released, to lash out and spew flames. She ought to fear him, and whimper like a meek human lass. For some mysterious reason, he couldn’t make his fingers let her go.

The human flesh beneath his fingers was warm and silky smooth, and he wondered if the rest of her was as appealing. She smelled heavenly, and the urge to taste her made his groin tighten, and his head lower.

He melded his mouth with hers, and drank in her deliciousness. She tasted sweet, with a hint of mulled cider. Her lips were as soft and plump as the clouds over the Black Cuillin Hills, and he wondered if her breasts, concealed beneath a shabby dress, were as soft.

Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger, Clan of Dragons, and SPARK

Aloha!  This morning, I borrowed the time machine from the Big Bang Theory to jump ahead in Nancy Lee Badger's CLAN OF DRAGON series - I spotlighted SMOKE, Book 2 (link), without first introducing SPARK, Book 1.  Nancy joins me again to put us on the right timeline ...

Over a decade ago, when my youngest son joined the United States Army, and took on the job of communications specialist, he got a tattoo. You have to understand that this was the first tattoo that anyone in our family had gotten, and it was a big one. A dragon covered a good portion of his back, and he was so proud of it. He was 18, and was no longer my responsibility, BUT I told him that the next time I wrote a Scottish novel filled with dragons, he would be my cover model.

Fast-foreword to 2016. I had decided to write a series called Clan of Dragons, and the time had come to take advantage of my son. He had served in Iraq, had attained the rank of Drill Sergeant, and had retired from service. However, “What momma wants, momma gets.”

Eric travels all over the country as a cell tower inspector, but when he planned to stop by to do his laundry, and share lunch with me, I suggested he bring his collection of swords and dirks (shorter blades worn at the waist.) While waiting for him to drive over from his apartment, I pulled out his dad’s Clan MacBean red and black kilt, and dug out my red wig. A sheet stapled to the deck wall made the background, and I snapped 14-15 poses. The next thing was to pick a pose that matched the theme of my story. I purchased a photo of the Black Cuillin Hills on the Scottish island of Skye, where the series is based, and used Photoshop to ‘color’ the kilt to match the purple kilt in my story. The result became the cover of SPARK, the first book in the series.

I am using other poses for the next book, SMOKE which transforms Eric into a blond wearing a green kilt, holding a dirk. He is very proud of helping me with this project, which came about because of the dragon tattoo on his back. That part is un-retouched!

A dragon by any other name would still breathe sparks.

Book Blurb for SPARK, Clan of Dragons, Book #1

What can a young dragon do to prove to his older brothers that he is their clan’s best chance to save their species? In the Black Cuillin Hills, on Scotland’s Isle of Skye, Evan heads to the village of Morhban to find a way to interact with humans. To learn their language and customs, and to get close enough to a red-haired beauty to mate with her, the brown-winged purple dragon shifts into a copper-colored horse. When his new hooves protect her from Lord Toal MacMorgan’s inappropriate demands with a well-placed kick, she thanks Evan by brushing his silky coat. Things are looking up.

When an unfamiliar horse kicks Toal into the creek, releasing Vika from his roaming hands, her appreciation turns to horror. A sputtering Toal demands that the animal die. Anger makes Vika agree to a wager. A three day hunt will determine the fate of the horse she names Spark. Failure will mean his death, and the loss of her freedom. Pirates, wolves, a wild boar, and a handsome stranger lead her on a wild ride. She discovers her heart is in as much danger as her life.

An excerpt from SPARK ...

Unfurling his wings, Evan arched his back. He flapped the thin leathery membranes, and the sun turned their normally muddy brown into the color of melted copper. He gazed at his older brothers. “I propose we head to the village, land in the forest, and watch the villagers go about their day. An idea will spark inside of me, and I shall begin me quest for a mate.”

Dougal said nothing, but nodded his huge, red-scaled head. Wynn sighed, and unfurled his snowy wings in silent agreement. They acted like they doubted he could accomplish such a feat.

Evan jumped into the air. As his wings snapped and propelled him into the morning sky, Wynn followed him. He did not look back to see if Dougal followed them. He had faith in his oldest brother to do the right thing.

Although one future had died with Cliona and her unborn bairn, Dougal was still a young two hundred and thirty-eight years, and strong. He was a mighty warrior, and he would come around, should their experiment bear fruit.

That fruit would be a bairn. Evan’s offspring. The thought of mating with anyone made Evan’s head swim, and he flapped his wings with renewed gusto, and shot even farther ahead of his brethren. Something surged through him. Something akin to hope pierced his chest, right through to his dragon heart. He had a feeling luck was on his side, and an adventure would give Dougal hope that he might find another mate. With his brothers at his back, how could he lose?

Aloha to Nancy Lee Badger, Dragons as Warriors, and SMOKE (Clan of Dragons Book 2)

Nancy Lee Badger joins us for a guest post ...

When I decided to write a series called Clan of Dragons, the time had come to take advantage of my son. He had served in Iraq, had attained the rank of Drill Sergeant, and had retired from service, but I told him many years ago that I wanted to use him as a cover model the next time I wrote a series that included dragons. The reason? The large dragon tattoo on his back. Since Eric travels all over the country as a cell tower inspector, getting him to visit on a sunny day, so I could photograph him outside on my deck, took some planning.

The day came, and he brought his collection of swords and dirks, and I snapped over a dozen poses of him dressed in his dad’s Clan MacBean red and black kilt.. I purchased a photo of the foggy peaks on the Scottish island of Skye, where the series is based, and used Photoshop to ‘color’ the kilt to match the green kilt in my story, and added blond hair. The result became the cover of SMOKE, the second book in the series.

I am using other poses for the next book, SMOLDER, which transforms Eric into a warrior with long black hair. I am very proud of my son’s service to his country, and for helping his mom with this project.

A dragon beneath a full moon might howl, but would still breathe smoke.

Book Blurb for SMOKE, Clan of Dragons, Book #2

The green dragon tumbles off a craggy peak, and lands in a pile of snow. When someone walks on Wynn’s head, he jumps free, and accidentally slams a wolf against a tree. When the unconscious beast shifts into a naked female, explanations are in order. Wynn enjoys shifting into a wolf to run through the forest, but she is a stranger. When she wakens, he explains he and his two brothers mean her no harm. After she allows them to carry her injured body into a cave, his brother Evan’s mate, Vika, cares for her. Kera reveals she is hunting a human, who might be a pirate. Wary about the golden-haired shifter’s mission, Wynn fears for her safety, and his heart.

While tracking the human who murdered her lover, Kera awakens in deep snow to dragons staring at her. One looks as if he wants to eat her, and the other smells like smoke. With an injured hip, and no energy to shift back into her wolf, she allows a pretty human to care for her. The dragons take up her search, but the pirates enter the cave. Kera leads the pregnant human into the underground river. Only by fighting for their lives do they escape. While assisting a human lad in the village, a man recognizes her, and abducts her. Wynn shows up in human form, and they fight against the man who is the cause of her nightmares. Her wolf pack wants her back, but the dragon has stolen her heart. Will she stay in Wynn’s bed, return to her pack, or possibly die while killing her lover’s murderer? Either way, her life will forever change.

Excerpt from SMOKE ...

The odor of the dragon’s breath overpowered the scent of pine and fresh-fallen snow. Kera ran a hand down her leg, and didn’t feel any blood, but the limb throbbed. When heavy footsteps grew closer, a momentary wish to dip her body into the nearest fairy pool disappeared. How foolish. The urge to escape beneath its cool, clear water, or feel the massaging action of a cascading waterfall, was not strong enough to forget her current predicament, or the wintry weather.

The dragon moved toward her as it circled the tree. Its long white fangs glistened, and its hot breath melted the snow at her feet. Kera searched the area for a weapon. Unfortunately, the snow around the tree was heavy, and had covered everything.

Gazing upward, she thought to grab a limb and climb to safety, but she stopped when an odd voice said, “I apologize.” Who spoke to her in the presence of a dragon? Curiosity would be her downfall someday, but she peered from behind the tree and saw the green dragon, and only the dragon.

“Did you…say something?”

I be speaking to a dragon? Did I hit me head as well?

“Aye, lass,” the dragon said. “I apologized. I did not mean to throw you so hard, but your wolf form surprised me. There be friends of mine nearby whom I wish to protect. I can…ahh…see you be not only a wolf.”

With her secret out, a weight lifted from her shoulders. “I, also, apologize. I hope I did not hurt you by walking on your head. I heard something fall from the mountain, then I smelled you and…I was too curious for me own good.”

“You have a lovely smile, but I see pain in your eyes. Be you injured?”

She nodded, then immediately wondered if admitting her vulnerability made her a target. While contemplating her next move, the dragon leaned closer and sniffed her hip.

“No blood. You should come with me.”

Before she could answer with a resounding nay, a roar shook the tree, and dumped snow from the branches above them, onto their heads.

Nancy offers an excerpt from MY BANISHED HIGHLANDER ...

Cameron smiled and said, “Remove yer nightclothes, love.”

His endearment brought about a pleasant throbbing between her legs and a slight bout of dizziness. Her breasts felt swollen and heavy. Anticipation drove her to push up onto her knees. She drew the gauzy gown over her head and, even in the dark, she suspected he could see her. The idea made her nipples harden. Tingles tiptoed down her spine to nestle between her buttocks.

“Yer beautiful, love.”

“What now?”

“Kiss me.”

It wasn’t a request, she noted. The reflection in his voice was full of harsh desire. For her. Placing a palm on his chest, she bent and brushed her lips over his. He tasted of Scottish ale and something stronger.

“Have you been drinking whisky?” The overuse of liquor might explain why he showed up in her room and had shucked his clothes. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea. She pulled away, but he wrapped a muscled arm around her waist.

“Only one glass with Marcus. I am not drunk, nor would I wish to be. Yer intoxicating kisses be enough.” When he tugged her shoulder, Iona collapsed on top of him.

She squirmed until she lay splayed across his chest and groin. The hard ridge of his desire pressed against her woman’s center, and she gasped. He laughed, and Iona relaxed, soothed by his jovial attitude.

“What do we do next?”

“Iona, ye are a treasure and I wish I could give ye the world.”

“No one can do that.”

“Aye, but I can give ye pleasure, if ye trust in me this night.”

“I was attacked by a sorcerer, traveled through time, and battled knife-wielding ruffians. I’m still following you on this crazy adventure. How could I not trust you? Teach me?”
