Let's do something different for Valentine's Day. Let's laugh with Laura Levine's KILLING CUPID:
When Jaine lands a job writing web copy and brochures for matchmaker Joy Amoroso, she's excited for a chance to help the lovelorn just in time for Valentine's Day - until she realizes what "Dates of Joy" is really all about. Joy is a ruthless taskmaster who screams at her employees for the smallest infractions, pads her website with pictures of professional models posing as clients, and offers up convincing but empty promises of love in exchange for inordinate sums of money. And woe betide anyone who lays a finger on her heavily guarded stash of chocolates. So it's no surprise when the chiselling cupid turns up dead at a Valentine's Day mixer. Aghast to find herself on the cops' suspect list, Jaine sets out to track down the killer. Who could it be? Joy's harried assistants, whose lives she made a living hell? Her younger lover? The handsome hunk of a client with a secret in his past? Or the furious Beverly Hills widow who forked over the last of her savings for a Prince Charming who never materialized? Joy left behind a slew of enemies struck by her deviant arrows, so finding the culprit may prove harder than spotting that elusive caramel praline in a box of chocolates - and Jaine will have to flirt with danger to get to the truth...
Jaine is a freelance writer, best known for Toilet Master's advertising campaign - In a Rush? Call Us! As she snacks on junk food (and adjusts her elastic pants), Jaine stumbles across murder in the pursuit of the holy grail of writing jobs - one that pays! Laura Levine throws every romantic cliche into the mix to deliver a laugh-a-minute adventure with Jaine, her flamboyant neighbor Lance, and her self absorbed cat Prozac. This cozy mystery is too funny to be taken seriously. For those new to the Jaine Austen series, this is a great way to jump into the chaos. Likewise, returning fans will savor the small details that Levine layers in this special treat for Valentine's Day.
I received an ARC from Kensington for review. I am giving away a Kensington prize package to one randomly selected commenter. To enter the giveaway,
1. Leave a comment about Valentine's Day - any funny stories to share? For the first Valentine's Day after my oldest son was born, my husband secured tickets for the musical CATS. Yet I was working in a command center which just initiated 12 hour shifts. Although I worked the day shift, I was so tired. I fell asleep during the first scene and we drove home at Intermission.
2. This giveaway is open to all readers.
3. Comments are open through Saturday, February 15. I'll post the winner on Sunday, February 16.

I don't have a silly anectdote to share because I'm usually single for Valentine's day so I just use it as an excuse to eat lots of chocolate!
ReplyDeleteWe don't do anything special for Valentine's Day, so no good stories to tell. It's usually pretty low key. Mainly dinner and movie.
ReplyDeleteVal's Day has always been pretty low-key for us. Hubby and I share a birthday, have our wedding anniversary, and typically party at Mardi Gras during the month of February. No silly stories, but we usually do something together to celebrate.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any funny Valentine's day stories that I have. We don't do much for Valentine's. Though we do always get some form of chocolate treat since we both love chocolate. Often it is German Chocolate Pie. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteNo fun stories. We generally don't make much of Valentines.
ReplyDeleteI'm boring. Nothing special about Valentine's day.
ReplyDeleteNo fun stories. This year I have a ring candle coming. You burn the candle and find a ring buried instde.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day :)
ReplyDeleteLike everyone else we have no funny stories to share. My hubby is wonderful about gifting on Valentines day. Sometimes I get jewelry and always chocolate ;)

Happy Valentine's Day! No funny stories here either. My husband gets me flowers and candy.
ReplyDeleteBoy, a humorous bunch of us are here.... I just eat candy! and read romance books!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to all.
ReplyDeleteNothing interesting to tell. I do love getting chocolates for this day.
I really enjoyed Valentines day in grade school we used to get such great homemade valentines. It was fun for everyone. The teachers gave out cinnamon hearts and boy were they strong.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I also have a boring life...no funny stories for me either.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day everyone!!! Thanks for such a fun spotlight and giveaway :) A few years ago, my bf and I made plans to meet for dinner after work. Weeeell... we each went to different locations of the same restaurant. By the time we figured it out and went to meet back up again, it was a bit too late for dinner b/c we'd have to wait so long. So our "romantic" dinner was McDonald's and a lot of laughs :) Now, this year, it's just me and my dog and I couldn't be happier!
ReplyDeleteLove the cover. Vlentines Day is sort of a hit or miss day with my husband lol. But there was the time when he bought me flowers and when I got up in the morning the cats had done a job on them.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day! No stories to share
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day! I don't know if you find it funny. We prepared foods and celebrated valentines day, the thing is when we check the date it is still Feb 13 and we thought it is already 14.

Can't remember any funny stories. After work we went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant and hubby is in bed already. Pretty exciting.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone had a great day!
No good stories to tell. Now that we are older, we usually have a quiet evening in.

no good Valentines stories. I loved the show CATS - first saw it in London many years ago - hadn't heard anything about it but others in our group wanted to go - so glad I did (that's the cast that Tom Selleck's wife-to-be-later was in).
ReplyDeleteNo stories, jst love a
ReplyDeleteEating chocolates, thanks
Kimh
I work retail and spent this Valentines Day stocking Easter candy. I can't believe I was putting chocolate eggs on the shelves while next to me they were buying roses.
ReplyDeleteThe only funny story that I have relates to my daughter. Her boyfriend had bought her a box of Godiva chocolates. She made the mistake of leaving the open box on the coffee table when she went out for dinner. When she got home, she found that most of the chocolates had been eaten by her dog. Needless to say, her boyfriend was not amused!!!

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! Mine was spent shopping for little gifts for all the special people in my life!
