Today we celebrate US Flag Day ...

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

... and the US Army's 242nd Birthday

First to fight for the right,
And to build the Nation’s might,
And The Army Goes Rolling Along
Proud of all we have done,
Fighting till the battle’s won,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along.

Refrain: Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hey!
The Army’s on its way.
Count off the cadence loud and strong (TWO! THREE!)
For where e’er we go,
You will always know
That The Army Goes Rolling Along.

Valley Forge, Custer’s ranks,
San Juan Hill and Patton’s tanks,
And the Army went rolling along
Minute men, from the start,
Always fighting from the heart,
And the Army keeps rolling along.

(refrain)

Men in rags, men who froze,
Still that Army met its foes,
And the Army went rolling along.
Faith in God, then we’re right,
And we’ll fight with all our might,
As the Army keeps rolling along.

  4. My sons and late father are and were Army. The largest flag I myself have ever seen is at a car dealer lot near our home. It's son large it waves and is almost as long as the length of the building. So glorious looking when waving in the wind. I've seen an Army band at a couple of bases we went to.

    1. Where are you, Carol L? I ask because the largest flag I have ever seen is also at a car dealership on Bell Road in Peoria, Arizona. Just curious, could it be the same flag??

  7. There is a bank in my neck of the woods that has a massive flag above it. We always comment on how we never knew there could be a flag that large! It waves slowly and magestically since it is so huge.

  8. The college football stadium hoists the largest flag I've seen. I know a number of Army vets. I've only visited USAF bases as my BIL served.

  10. that's a great picture of the guys in the different uniforms. I know I've seen some really big flags, often on football game fields. It's hard to tell how big they are when they are flying high over a building.

  11. The biggest flag was at at a Penn State/Miami Championship game in Phoenix. Covered the whole field. My father-in-law was in the Army Air Force before there was an offical Air-Force. He worked on Eisenhower's staff during the war.

  13. In 4th grade, we visited the Betsy Ross house in Philadelphia. But, in 1991, I visited Ft. Mc Henry in Baltimore. Both are important in their own way with regard to the flag.

I don't know where I have seen the largest US flag I encountered.

My father is now in the Honor Guard for the American Legion and representing at events and funerals. Go Army!

  14. I think the largest flag I've seen is one at a football game. I do know and am related to many Army veterans. The closest to an army band on parade that I've seen is Texas A&M Corp of Cadets Band marching with the entire Corp (comprised of cadets from most, if not all, branches of the military). Some of the cadets will enlist and serve, other enter the job force.

  15. The largest flag I have seen in person is at a car dealership on Bell Rd in Peoria, AZ. It is enormous and unbelievably impressive. Especially when the wind is blowing strong enough.
A most inspiring flag I have seen is at Fort McHenry. We fly a flag from there here, at our home, those special days in September.
We also have a flag, framed, that flew over the capitol on the day our son graduated from army basic training. Which leads me to the veteran, our son. We know many, veterans as well as currently serving. But he is the closest to us of course. We have had occasions to visit a number of bases. But Ft Sill is where our son graduated from basic training.
    Thanks for asking!! :-)
